The West Denbiya Woreda Council in Central Gonder Zone of Amhara regional state has confirmed reports of deadly confrontations between local armed group and senior members of the federal army that resulted in the death and injuries of people on Wednesday 26 July.

According to the local council, the confrontations erupted during a visit of senior members of the North West Command of the Ethiopian National Defense Forces (ENDF) who were on their way to Gorgora project, one of Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed’s resorts that is being constructed under his signature “Dine for Generation” (Gebeta LeTewuld) project. The resort is located in the Gorgora town in the West Denbiya district of the central Gonder zone, and was visited by PM Abiy last April.

The local council claimed that the incident happened “when armed forces blocked the road and harassed” the army members, including by “inappropriate agitation against the defense forces. Lives were lost, and physical injuries have also occurred”, the council said, without disclosing the exact location of the incident.

“The root cause of all this problem is a lack of understanding of things and an unreasonable threat,” it said.

Unconfirmed reports were circulating on social media since yesterday that up to a dozen people were killed in the incident, including members of the army and local armed men.

The local council pleaded with the “entire people” of the region to “properly understand” the issue of conflict with the national defense army and consider “the future fate of the Amhara people by advising and educating those who are vulnerable to this type of actions”.

“In order to have lasting peace in our area, we should prepare to solve the problems we are facing through dialogue. We call for sustainable peace and resolve our problems peacefully through dialogue,” the council said.

Mass protests in several major cities in the Amhara region against the federal government’s decision to reorganize regional special forces into regular police and the national army have quickly led to widespread instability and the subsequent assassination on 27 April of the Head of the ruling Prosperity Party in the region, Girma Yeshitila.

On 28 April, the Ethiopian Joint Security and Intelligence Task Force announced that it started “taking decisive measures” against “extremist forces” that it accused of “trying to take control of regional state power by destroying the constitutional order in the Amhara regional state.”

Since then several reports indicate that the militarized violence between the irregular armed group in the region called “Fano” and the federal forces continued in many parts of the region. But owing to lack of official confirmations on the exact nature of the conflict, getting accurate reports remain challenging.

Lurking beneath the current Amhara-Oromo conflict is a quantum energy gathering strength like the crackle of electricity before a lightning storm. Understanding and harnessing this dynamic phenomenon is essential to thwart the malignant crisis that is metastasizing and carries in its womb the seeds of the nation’s destruction.

 

Let us make one thing clear from the outset. The Prime Minister is the primary actor whose Oromummaa anchored tribal fantasy, wholly predictable and preventable disasters, and utter incompetence are pulling apart the nation at the seams. The war with the Tigrayan People's Liberation Front (TPLF) and the mishandling of the Oromo Liberation Army (OLA) should have given him valuable experiences to reflect on and develop a deliberative conflict resolution process. Instead, with a sense of infallibility and certainly one of accountability to no one, he continues forging forward with his failed ways, deepening existing crises and creating new ones.

 

 

Ethiopians remember the TPLF war that the Prime Minister said he will wrap up in two weeks lasted two years with nearly a million people dead and over $28 billion economic structures laid to waste. On the heel of such a catastrophic war, he launched a new war against the Amhara Fanno with confidence to bring them to their knees in a matter of weeks. Five months have passed and Fanno is standing tall and getting taller.

 

Unlike the Oromummaa political project where tribal allegiance supersedes national identity, the Amhara challenge is that its tribal allegiance cannot be pursued outside of the survival of Ethiopia’s national identity. Therefore, Amhara’s struggle needs to be two-pronged: saving itself from Oromummaa cult politics and ensuring the continuation of Ethiopia as a nation.

 

In the current tribalized constitution and political and military organizational architecture, the Amhara will be foolish not to organize itself along tribal lines. A strong Amhara party offers organizational efficiency and political leverage. But its strategic goal for a transformative political change lies deeply in its ability to forge a broad-based national political agenda. የአማራ ኢትዮጵያዊነት ለጥያቄ እይቀርብም may be a nice bumper sticker but it cannot be a substitute for the lack of the two-pronged strategy noted above.

 

I am prompted to write this piece because I see Fanno risking a repeat of the failure of the National Movement of Amhara (NaMA) to sustain its initial rapid growth, owing to the lack of a forward-thinking strategic vision to elevate itself to national prominence. They failed to make their movement the center of gravity around which other tribal homelands could

 

coalesce in the quest to protect themselves and in the meantime be a bulwark for the nation’s peace and stability.

 

NaMA’s misguided decision stemmed from their belief that the right strategy was to first strengthen their Amhara base and then grow it into a national program. The problem was that once tribal parties are entrenched it is difficult to broaden their outlook. NaMA was preoccupied dealing with conflicts between Gonder, Gojam, Wello and Shewa interests more than building a national coalition.

 

This is not unique to the Amhara. By its very nature tribalism is restrictive, not all-embracive. Remember Oromo-PP, Amhara-PP, Somali-PP were all supposed to transform themselves to a national party. That was the Prime Minister’s aim in 2019 and early 2020. By 2021, the idea of transforming Oromo-PP into a national party was no more. If anything, it transformed itself into an extremist party in the mold of Oromo-Shene.

 

People say the Prime Minister was Shene all along. This is not true. What happened was he succumbed to the dynamism and inertia of Oromummaa. Sadly, he lacked moral fortitude, personal integrity, and political backbone to push back against Oromo tribalist forces. His lust for power made him look like a dry leaf on a windy day. His political position shifted, depending which way the wind was stronger.

 

The Theater of the Absurd

 

Abiy’s path toward a positive outcome is narrow and foggy. He is incapable of coming to terms that he is neither godly nor infallible. His presumed sense of holiness in the genre of Moses turned him into a cross between a mentally deranged king and an oblivious zombie sleepwalking toward a cliff.

 

Making the bad situation worse, his military power is bestowed in the hands of a delusional Field Marshal who is a reincarnation of Sancho Panza de la Mancha with a 16th century Oromummaa soul both in the title he holds and decisions he makes. Sancho Panza is a supremely entertaining early 17th Century peasant in Miguel de Cervantes's masterpiece Don Quixote.

 

 

Notably, there are three differences between Sancho Panza and the Field Marshall. First, the Field Marshall is less likeable. Second, Sancho Panza was following Master (Don Quixote) partly out of curiosity and fascination about his silliness whereas the Field Marshal is driven by a sense of pride, reverence, and blind loyalty to his master. Third, unlike the Field Marshal who is reckless and dangerous to the stability of the nation, Sancho Panza was a harmless clown.

 

The Over Supply of Clowns in Ethiopian Politics

 

Ethiopian politics is never short of clowns. Some people see TPLF being another source of existential threat. I see TPLF leaders as a cross between a clown and a fly on a ceiling. TPLF is like a fly on a dining room ceiling flying from one corner to the other. Its presence does not make a material difference, but it may be an annoying nuisance. Your mind tells you to ignore it, but your eyes cannot avoid following it. The case with a clown is the same. You try to ignore its presence but you cannot remove your eyes from it.

 

Whatever TPLF’s leaders do to reduce their followers’ psychological trauma and win the support of its delusional diaspora, they will not change the political status of their tribal land in terms of influencing Ethiopia’s political trajectory. What is saddening for the people of Tigray is that TPLF is doing exactly what it was doing before the war. ጌቾም መሞጣሞጥ ጀምራለች:: የትግራይ ዳያስፖዎችም “እምበር ተጋደላይ” እያሉ በእስክስታ የታጀበ defiant dance ጀመረዋል:: It is the déjà vu of the symphony of the absurd - with Gecho serving as the Maestro. You want to ignore them, but you cannot help your eyes that follow them.

 

The Rise of Amhara Fanno

 

Amhara Fano is gaining momentum because of four factors. The first factor is TPLF’s and Oromo-PP’s flirting around the issues of Wolkait and Raya. The Prime Minister’s futile attempt to use Wolkait and Raya as a carrot and stick strategy to keep the Amhara under leash backfired by animating Amhara nationalism and militarism.

 

The second is Oromo PP’s monstrosity that is driven from the Oromummaa bestiality. The rank-and-file members of Amhara-PP, Amhara militia and Amhara special forces are aghast by the Oromo PP-led government. They have not only seen Oromo-PP leaders being christened in the holy mud of Oromummaa, but they have also witnessed as they forcefully evict Amhara people from the Oromo tribal land and deny them entry to Addis Ababa. This has led the rank-and-file Amhara-PP, militia, and special force to sympathize with, provide material and intelligence support to, and even join the Fanno uprising.

 

The third factor is the Amhara silent majority that has shunned Amhara Fannos in the past is now embracing them, going as far as providing them with cover and logistical support. Increasingly, the Amhara silent majority is taking bold actions, such as blocking roads and joining Fannos on battlefields.

 

The fourth factor is even more potent. The social psychology in the Amhara tribal land is changing. An optimistic, if not euphoric, Amhara national psychology is being birthed. This is planting new seeds of impulse that tickle and awaken Amhara’s slumbering inner strength. The Oromo-PP’s ultra-stupid desire to degrade, humiliate and bring Amhara to its knees

 

ignited the fire of protest. There is no power that is stronger than an agitated inner strength borne out of a sense of betrayal and humiliation. It was like a coiled spring ready to erupt.

 

Recent repeated victories across the Fanno universe have energized vigorous uprising across the Amhara tribal land. The tale of victories and the sight of raised flags herald the Fanno resistance is inching toward an inflection point where the path to victory in terms of forcing the Prime Minister to blink is becoming clearer.

 

Once the point of inflection is breached, the defection rate from Amhara special forces will pick up speed and the silent majority will start to join the movement in mass in pursuit of freeing Amhara from political Oromummaa.

 

Let us remember that the Field Marshall is getting his military’s ass whipped by the Oromo Liberation Army (OLA) in the Oromo tribal land. There are three critical differences between Amhara Fanno and the OLA warrant mentioning to give context to the emerging Fanno phenomenon.

 

First, the OLA is a criminal establishment that robs banks and kidnaps innocent people for ransom. In contrast, Amhara Fanno is restrained from criminal activities. Second, Amhara Fanno is increasingly embraced by the people of Amhara, while the OLA is rejected by the people of Oromo. Third, the OLA is very much restricted to Wellega albeit it is engaged in hit and run attacks outside of Wellega. By comparison, Amhara Fanno is lurking operating in every nook and cranny across the Amhara tribal land. New ones are sprouting like spring blossoms.

 

 

The Prime Minister and his Field Marshall are best advised to remember that there are 11 administrative zones in the Amhara tribal land. It will not be too long before each one of them marshals its own Fanno brigade spreading across the 185,700 square kilometer land, currently under the Amhara region. By comparison the Tigray tribal land is 19,088 square kilometers that is currently under the government of the government of Tigray.

 

Let us remind the Prime Minister that, in June 2021, he pulled the Military out of the Tigray region because it was not able to fight the TPLF that was supported by the people. He will be foolish to think federal forces can win against Fanno, who is increasingly supported by the people of Amhara with a population that is multiple times more than the population of Tigray.

 

 

What happened in Gorgora two days ago is a harbinger for what is to come in the Amhara tribal land. The field Marshall came by car and escaped by a helicopter. The strength of the current Ethiopian military that the Field Marshall has assembled is like the wheat Ethiopia is exporting. It exists only in the Prime Minister’s mind.

 

The federal forces that the Prime Minister as the nation’s commander in chief and his Field Marshal assembled to suppress Fano hail primarily from the Oromo and Southern Peoples tribal lands. The fact that they are suspicious of the allegiances of its military personnel of Amhara origins is bound to fracture one of the nation’s last bastions of unity – the military!

 

Potential Problem with Fanno

 

From Ethiopia’s stability and continuity perspective, I see two areas of danger in current developments in the Amhara tribal land: Internal Amhara Conflict and Amhara-Oromo Civil War.

 

 

In the absence of a unifying strategic political agenda that goes beyond protecting Amhara from Oromummaa, the emergence of 11 Fanno brigades working independently bears the seeds of discord and potentially even worse. Every strong military organization requires an even stronger political architecture with a strategic brain trust to guide and control it. Otherwise, as every Fanno brigade gets traction in its own area of operation, the Amhara tribal land will face a new environment that can potentially break it up into fiefdoms of warlords.

 

 

Only a political novice will think the political elbow throwing between Gonder, Gojam, Shewa and Wello factions will not happen between their armed forces. Of course, there is no surety that this will happen. Conversely, there is no guarantee that it will not happen. Wise leaders cannot leave such potentiality to chance. They need to be proactive.

 

Averting Civil War

 

In the face of Oromummaa’s insatiable appetite for domination and intemperate instinct for Mogassa inspired bloodletting, the continued strengthening of Fanno comes with an increased risk of a civil war between Amhara and Oromo. If this happens, as it is likely to happen, there will be no winner. Apart from massive death and destruction on both sides, Ethiopia’s stability and continuity is likely to deteriorate or even crossover to irreversibility.

 

In the face of existential threat, the Amhara people have no choice but to defend themselves. But from Ethiopia’s survival perspective, it is important to keep an eye on the dynamic that can spiral out of control as the two groups escalate their conflict, drawing energy from their hate to, and fear of, each other. If we fail to short-circuit the transmission line that allows polarization between the two groups, Ethiopia will enter a zone of entropic chaos. If and when that happens, the chance to slide into national disintegration will be of high probability.

 

A Two-Pronged Approach

 

Protecting Amhara from Oromo-PP may be a necessary condition to save Amhara from Oromummaa savagery and Ethiopia from disintegration. But it is not a sufficient condition. A winning political agenda requires a two-pronged approach: to save Amhara and create a political environment for national consensus building.

 

Consensus building is an arduous task that requires nuanced, judicious, tolerant, and inclusive agenda and strategy. Saving Amhara from Oromummaa brutality and building national consensus must be pursued concurrently, not sequentially. This is important for two reasons.

 

 

First, the speed with which the government is crumbling suggests the time window is narrow for a sequential approach. Second, as noted above, once tribal forces are entrenched at any level, it is next to impossible to broaden the agenda. This is what NaMA faced when they tried to reform their party to broaden their agenda and political horizon.

 

Currently, the political reality in the Amhara tribal land is encouraging in terms of defending itself. But that in and of itself cannot take us to the promised land. What happens in the Oromo tribal land is just as a critical component in defusing the ticking time bomb and averting a looming civil war.

 

Remember Ethiopia is bigger than Amhara and Oromo. Building broad national agenda with the Somali, the Gurage the Wolaita, the Afar, the Gambella and others who feel betrayed and harmed by the Oromummaa cult politics is of significant strategic importance. It will pave the way for an alignment of strategic forces around a unifying agenda to counter Oromummaa’s hegemonic fantasy. Amhara alone cannot author a national agenda and invite others to line behind it. The process of forging a national agenda is as important as the modality and substance of it.

 

 

A strategic national agenda is necessary to develop a concomitant roadmap to establish a winning national program that resonates with disgruntled Ethiopians in all parts of the nation. The strategy and the roadmap must win the support and confidence of Ethiopians of all hues and political persuasions. Above all, the strategy must be anchored in a win-win outcome. Such an approach will help build a national coalition and simultaneously strengthen the Amhara within its own tribal land by accelerating the support of the silent majority at home.

 

 

 

Another important point is having a clear and achievable endgame both at the Amhara and national levels. Is the Amhara end game to overthrow Amhara-PP? Then what? Is it to replace the Abiy government with a coalition government? If so, is this shared by other tribal homelands?

 

Equally important question is: What plan is in place to avoid a civil war between Amhara and Oromo? Remember, there are millions of Amhara in the Oromo tribal land. Is there a plan to protect and save them? Remember also that a civil war between Amhara and Oromo will blow life into TPLF and encourage it to open a new round of war against Amhara to reclaim the two contested lands. Is Amhara prepared to defend itself from both ends and still advance its tribal and national agenda?

 

There is Still Hope

 

Peace can come only if both Amhara and Oromo reconfigure their power calculus and reboot their political system. There is a reason to believe the political environment is progressively opening-up a space for a win-win outcome.

 

Despite the Prime Minister’s bravado and chest-beating, his powerbase and legitimacy are being increasingly eroded. The D-day of reckoning that he is a king without cloth is not far off. The growing broad opposition in the Amhara tribal land along with the rise of Fanno and the elevated restiveness of the silent majority is bound to change the nation’s political power balance.

 

Put in the vernacular, the descent of Oromo-PP from the pinnacle of political height and the rise of Amhara from political paralysis brings with them potential equilibrium points where a delicate balance can be struck between the two.

 

The question is: Is Amhara ready for this eventuality? If there is an opportunity to negotiate, who will speak for Amhara? What will be the political agenda? What and who will drive the strategic engagement? These are questions that need to be addressed with a sense of urgency.

 

 

Elders, civil society organizations, intellectuals, professional and business organizations, as well as trade unions and other national stakeholders need to weigh in with new energy and spirit to broaden the agenda and build consensus. It is past time the silent majority in the Ethiopian intellectual class step up and crowd out their cacophonous tribal counterparts who are peddling conflicts and bloodletting.

ሲሮጡ የታጠቁት ሲሮጡ ይፈታል

ብአዴኑ አበባው ታደሰ ኦነጋዊ ጌታውን ጭራቅ አሕመድን ለመስደሰት በመቻኮል፣ ሺ ዓመታት ያስቆጠረውንና ቀፎው እንደተነካበት ንብ በነቂስ የተነሳውን ፋኖን በሁለት ሳምንት ውስጥ አጠፋለሁ ብሎ ተነስቷል። ይህ ችኮላው ግን ለፋኖ ትልቅ ዕድል ይከፍትለታል።  ፋኖ ማድረግ ያለበት በችኮላ እየተሯሯጠ የታጠቀውን ያበባው ታደሰን ጦር አድፍጦ ከመታ በኋላ እያሯሯጠ ትጥቁን ማስፈታት ነው።  ለዚህ ተግባር ደግሞ በተግባር የተፈተኑት የማኦ ዜዶንግ ሦስቱ ስልታዊ ትእዛዞች (The Three Tactical Commandments) ፍቱን ናቸው።

- ጠላትሲዳከም አጥቃ

- ጠላትሲያርፍ አውክ

እነዚህ ስልታዊ ትዕዛዞች ተተግብረው፣ ያበባው ታደሰ ጦር ተባሮ ቀበሌወችና ቀጠናወች ነጻ ሲወጡ ደግሞ፣ ፋኖን ይበልጥ በማጠናከር ትግሉን ይበልጥ ለማቀጣጠል፣ የማኦ ዜዶንግ አሥሩ ስነስርዓታዊ ትዕዛዞች (The Ten Disciplinary Commandments) የግድ መተግበር አለባቸው።

- ያለቃህንትእዛዝ ቅንጣት ሳትጠራጠርና ላፍታ ሳታንገራግር ፈጽም፡፡

- የሕዝብን ንብረት አትንካ፣መርፌም ብትሆን፡፡

- ከሕዝብስጦታ አትቀበል፣ ክርም ብትሆን፡፡

- ከሕዝብምንም ነገር አተዋስ፣ የግድ መዋስ ካለብህ ደግሞ የተዋስከውን ወዲያውኑ ተጠቅመህ በተዋስክበት ሁኔታ መልስ፣ ካበላሸህም ትክክለኛ ዋጋውን ክፈል (አልቀበልም ብትባል እንኳን በትሕትና አሳምነህ ሳትከፍል አትንቀሳቀስ)፡፡

- ከገበያምሆነ ከየትም ቦታ ለምትገዛቸው ወይም ለምትሸምታቸው ነገሮች ሁሉ ተገቢ ዋጋቸውን ክፈል (አልቀበልም ብትባል እንኳን በትሕትና አሳምነህ ሳትከፍል አትንቀሳቀስ)፡፡

- በውጊያወቅት ላወደምከው ወይም ላጠፋኻው ወይም ለጎዳኻው የሕዝብ ሐብት፣ ንብረትና ሂወት ተገቢውን ካሳ ሙሉ በሙሉ ክፈል (አልቀበልም ብትባል እንኳን በትሕትና አሳምነህ ሳትከፍል አትንቀሳቀስ)፡፡

- የውጊያግርግር ለዘራፊ ያመቻልና፣ በግርገሩ የተዘረፈን፣ የተበዘበዘን ወይም የተመዘበረን የሕዝብ ሐብትና ንብረት አስመልስ፣ ማስመለስ ካልቻልክ ደግሞ ተገቢውን ካሳ እራስህ ክፈል (አልቀበልም ብትባል እንኳን በትሕትና አሳምነህ ሳትከፍል አትንቀሳቀስ)፡፡

- ሴት፣ወንድ፣ ሕጻን፣ አረጋዊ ሳትል ማናቸውንም ሰው ስታናግር ሁልጊዜም በትሕትና አናግር፣ በተቻለህ መጠን ደግሞ እርዳ፡፡

- ልጃገረድ፣ኮረዳ፣ ባለትዳር፣ ፈት፣ ጋለሞታ፣ ሴታአዳሪ ሳትል ሴትን አክብር እንጅ በጭራሽ እንዳትደፍር፡፡  ግዳጅ ላይ እስካለህ ድረስ ከሩካቤ ሥጋ ፈጽሞ ታቀብ፡፡

- ምርኮኛምሆነ እስረኛ አታጎሳቁል፣ በተቻለህ መጠን ተንከባከብ፡፡

 

ፋኖ የጭራቅ አሕመድን ጭራቃዊ ጦር አከርካሪውን መምታት ያለበት መውጫ መግቢያውን በደንብ በሚያውቀው፣ ለሽምቅ ውጊያ ምቹ በሆነው ባማራ ክልል ላይ ነው።  የጭራቅ አሕመድ ጭራቃዊ ጦር አማራ ክልል ላይ አከርካሪው ተመትቶ ፍርክርኩ ከወጣ፣ ሌሎቹን የጦቢያ ክፍሎች ለመቆጣጠር የሚያስፈልገው የጭራቁን ርዝራዦች የማጽዳት ዘመቻ (mopping operation) ብቻ ይሆናል።

Ethiopian Airlines successfully weathered the Covid pandemic by shifting its strategy, but Africa’s only profitable carrier still faces “real challenges” in sourcing parts and staying competitive at a time of inflation, its CEO told AFP.

The 2022-2023 financial year ending June 30 “was a very successful year,” Mesfin Tasew said in an interview in Ethiopia’s capital Addis Ababa. “We carried 13.7 million passengers, which is a 57-per cent growth compared to the previous year and 10 per cent higher than pre-Covid. We also carried 740,000 tonnes of cargo, which is nearly double pre-Covid,” he said.

 

HOW MUCH DID ETHIOPIAN AIRLINE GENERATE?

The state-owned company generated $6.1 billion in revenue, up 20 per cent compared to the previous year and nearly 50 per cent more than pre-Covid earnings. The airline turned to freight when passenger traffic fell, including converting some of its passenger aircraft to transport cargo.

“The figures indicate that we have fully recovered from the impacts of Covid,” said Mesfin, who was appointed to the job in March 2022. But, he said, the pandemic’s effects can still be felt in the form of “high inflation… which translates into high operating costs for us (and) high fuel price.”

The disruption to the global supply chain caused by Covid-19 has also led to a shortage of spare parts required for repairs. “Sometimes we have difficulty flying all aeroplanes; we have to ground some of the aircraft until we get the parts”, he said.

He added that he expects the problem to be resolved within three years, “but today, it is a real challenge.” As the industry recovers from coronavirus and more planes take to the skies, potential overcapacity may lead to a fall in airfares, he said.

The company “will have to re-evaluate its cost structure and… work very hard on our cost-saving initiative to stay still competitive,” he said. Ethiopian Airlines is also facing other challenges, including a lawsuit filed by a rights group that claims the carrier discriminated against travellers from the war-scarred region of Tigray.

The airline resumed air links between the capital, Addis Ababa and Tigray after a peace deal was signed in November 2022, ending two years of conflict between the federal government and Tigrayan rebels.

Mesfin declined to answer any questions related to the case. The airline has previously denied claims that it had transported soldiers and weapons to Tigray during the war. The controversies have not dented the carrier’s bottom line, with Mesfin saying the airline intended to “attain certain key milestones by 2035”.

 

WHAT ARE THE OBJECTIVES

The objectives include increasing its annual passenger traffic to over 60 million, expanding its list of international destinations from 130 to 207 and nearly doubling its fleet to 271 planes. The company is also developing a sustainability strategy to meet the industry’s target of net zero emissions by 2050, he said.

“The studies so far indicate that more than 60 per cent of this carbon reduction will come from the use of sustainable aviation fuel,” he said. But the limited availability and high cost of SAF, which is made from sources such as municipal waste and agricultural waste, are major hurdles.

“Today it is twice as expensive as jet fuel — jet fuel today constitutes for us about 40 per cent of our total cost. If we wanted to use SAF at (the) current price, our costs would be out of proportion,” he said.

Furthermore, there are only “a few (SAF) manufacturers in Europe and the US, none in Africa as far as we know, so we cannot start (using) it now.” Even so, he remained optimistic that technological advances will one day enable manufacturers “to produce SAF at a price… which will be manageable for us.”

Meet Ethiopia’s richest man, Al-Amoudi, worth $5.4 billion

Ethiopia, Africa’s second most populous country, has witnessed its fair share of challenges over the past fifty years, from military rule and civil war to devastating famine.

However, in recent times, the nation has gradually begun experiencing economic growth and garnering increased strategic importance in the region.

At the forefront of this transformation stands Mohammed Al Amoudi, tagged the richest in Ethiopia- a man of dual heritage, born to a Saudi father and Ethiopian mother, he now holds the reins of wealth and influence in the country.  

The Ethiopian billionaire is worth $5.42 billion as of the time this report was written. 

With an impressive portfolio spanning construction, agriculture, and energy companies across Sweden, Saudi Arabia, and Ethiopia, Al Amoudi’s fortune primarily derives from closely held businesses in these nations.

Although no indication of outside partners has been found, the assumption is that the billionaire owns all of these assets. 


Background  


Born in 1946, Al Amoudi spent his formative years in Ethiopia before relocating to Saudi Arabia at the age of 19, where he eventually obtained Saudi citizenship.

It was in Saudi Arabia that he laid the foundations for his immense wealth, making strategic moves in the construction and real estate sectors, often benefiting from lucrative government contracts.

He later established the conglomerate Midroc in the early 1980s, a pivotal moment that paved the way for even greater successes. 

During the mid-1990s, Al Amoudi’s vision extended to Ethiopia, where he fostered a close relationship with the ruling party, the Ethiopian People’s Revolutionary Democratic Front.

Today, he stands as the country’s largest foreign investor, holding an impressive 98 per cent stake in Ethiopia’s primary large-scale gold mine.

His influence also extends to diverse sectors such as agriculture, manufacturing, real estate, steel, and construction, significantly contributing to Ethiopia’s economic growth and development.

At the peak of his wealth in 2017, Al Amoudi’s net worth soared to over $8 billion.

However, subsequent fluctuations in global oil and gold prices at the time of estimation led to a relative decline in his net value. 

Al Amoudi, the Oil Magnate 


With an eye for expansion, Al Amoudi ventured into the oil industry during the 1990s through his energy-focused holding group, Corral Petroleum.

His acquisitions included Swedish energy companies OKP (now Preem Petroleum) and Svenska Petroleum in 1994. Additionally, he assumed control of Morocco’s two largest oil refineries, merging them to create Samir. 


Investment in Ethiopia 


Ethiopia’s rich gold reserves did not escape Al Amoudi’s attention. His investments in the country include ownership of Midroc Gold, the largest gold miner in Ethiopia, and the Okote Gold Mine, which holds immense potential.

These ventures have solidified his title as the “King of the Gold Mines.” 


Commitment to Philanthropy and Education: 


Al Amoudi’s success has not blinded him to the needs of others. Through various initiatives, he has demonstrated a deep commitment to education and training.

Unity University, established in 1991, has been a significant part of this endeavour, offering diploma and degree programs in several fields.

Additionally, he has invested in the Harari National Cultural Centre and has supported early-stage Ethiopian space exploration. 


Al Amoudi’s Controversies  


Al Amoudi’s journey to prosperity has not been without its share of controversies. In 2005, Al Amoudi faced a high-profile defamation case in the UK, which was triggered by articles published by self-proclaimed terrorist expert, Jean Charles Brisard.

These articles made serious accusations, alleging that Al Amoudi was involved in funding terrorism.

However, the matter was resolved out of court, and Brisard later issued an apology, confessing that the information he presented was indeed false. 

Similarly, in July 2011, Al Amoudi found himself embroiled in another defamation case, this time against Elias Kifle, the publisher of Ethiopian Review, a prominent website.

The UK court ruled in favour of Al Amoudi, awarding him $282,000 in damages. 

Subsequently, in November 2017, Al Amoudi faced an altogether different challenge when he was detained by Saudi authorities during an anti-corruption crackdown.

The circumstances surrounding his arrest and the conditions of his release in January 2019 remained undisclosed by the Saudi authorities.

The Massacre at Gorgora : Abiy's Latest Genocide Backfires!

A rump Ethiopian Army, encroached by elements of the OLF, opened fire on local people at Gorgora, Gonder, after deliberately scandalizing  them by feasting on meat on a fast day –Wednesday, July 26,which coincided with the annual festival of the Archangel Saint Gabriel, one of the most observed religious days in the Orthodox Christian calendar. Armed peasants and nearby Fano units responded to the attack in self-defense and several casualties were reported.

Gorgora is the site of one of Abiy's white-elephant projects financed by domestic contributions (under the slogan "dine for nation”) and an array of foreign donations, mainly from oil-rich Arab states which are perennially keen to influence events in Ethiopia. This useless project is being used as a bribe to bamboozle Amharas into subjugation under the ruling party’s ‘prosperity gospel’ and the deeper agenda of Oromummaa.

Nevertheless, such is fate that it has backfired. Despite this spectacular failure, Berhanu Jula and his lackeys, mainly Abebaw Tadesse and Alemshet Deguefe, are currently in Bahir Dar trying to cobble together a rag-tag administration and impose it on the entire Amhara killil, the strategy being to fight and defeat Fano Resistance and subjugate the Amharas before extending Abiy Ahmed’s regime to all other ethnicities, including the Afars, the Gurages, the Welayetas, the Sidamas, the Gambellas, the Somalis, the kaffas, the Gedeos and other ethnic groups.

Gorgora is a historic place. It was once the capital city before King Fassilades founded Gonder. It was at Gorgora where one Pedro Paez, a Catholic Jesuit, succeeded in converting King Susenyos to Catholicism, which led to horrific bloodshed. The people prevailed and King Fassilades restored Orthodox Christianity. Gorgora was also the place where Fascist Italians made their last stand by setting up a 1500 -strong garrison in the early 1940's before they were dislodged by Ethiopian patriots with the help of the British. Above all, Gorgora is an Orthodox Christian shrine where the Debre Sina Church was built over 400 years ago and where several old monasteries are found. May it now be the historic place where Abiy's kleptocracy and anti-Orthodox Church campaign will be stopped in their tracks?

Theology of Prosperity and Political Decay: At the World Congress of Sociology,  a good friend attended a session on the devastating impacts of the theology of prosperity in Latin America. The level of elite corruption and mass misery documented in the presentations was disorienting. For prosperity theologians, showcasing success (even in the face of suffering and catastrophe) is critically important. Foregrounding success as a sign of God's favor necessitates a strategic ignorance about challenges and bad news. In the case of Abiy Ahmed's Ethiopia, what is even more worrisome is the theology of prosperity (neo-Pentecostal evangelism) has been entangled with tribal politics and discord.

Abiy's prosperity gospel is a travesty of the original. Prosperity gospel does believe that good health and material prosperity through hard work are a sign of divine blessings! Every Christian or Muslim believes so, too, provided the prosperity comes through hard work as prescribed! But Abiy and his collaborators believe that prosperity by plunder is equally good as long as a bit of the loot is shared with other people! Hence Abiy's wife makes a lot of money by laundering it and shares some of it with others by building schools for the public. Adanech Abebe receives a bribe of 40 million birr credited to her secret bank account and shares a bit of the money by giving free lunches to poor people in Addis Ababa. Abiy receives billions of birr from Ethiopia's historical enemies as prime minister of Ethiopia but uses it as private money to donate some of it for the benefit of the public.

Hence Abiy and his followers practice a corrupted form of prosperity gospel. The worst thing about it all is that they are trying to impose political Oromummaa, a genocidal form of ethnic domination and dictatorship, on all the 85 language ethnicities of Ethiopia by first vanquishing the rising armed opposition of the Amharas who are in fact the largest language ethnic group in Ethiopia. Abiy has worked out a plan to subjugate the Amharas by declaring martial law in Amhara killil under what is called a command -post administration reportedly to be led by the notorious Amhara traitor, Abebaw Tadesse.

I have full confidence that the Amharas can defend themselves and even go beyond that and help all other language ethnicities protect themselves against the inevitable attacks on them Abiy is planning after Abebaw's campaign against the Amharas, which is doomed to failure. In any case, the Amharas must engage the invading Abiy's army in all zones and Weredas in Amhara Killil and defeat it by harassing it from all sides in a total people's war! It is sad that sacrifices must be made for the survival of the Amhara people but they are sacrifices worth making not only to defend Amharas but also Ethiopia from extinction! Trained battalions and brigades of Amhara Fanos in every Zone and Wereda of Amhara Killil, adequate military supplies and provisions, military strategists who know the terrain like the backs of their hands, all other logistical support and, above all, popular acceptance and commitment will ensure that the Great Amhara Resistance and Counter-Offensive spearheaded by the Popular Amhara Front (APF) and led by Eskinder the Lion Hearted will finally triumph. Abiy's latest attempt to scare the Amharas with yet another atrocious act of genocide has failed to intimidate them! It has backfired! I close my short article with this story. They say that wisdom comes with age, and wise sayings and wisdom quotes will give you better judgment and a sense of purpose in life. We could all use a little more wisdom to help us make it through the day.

An Old Farmer writes to his son who is in Prison:

"Dear Son, this year I won't be able to plant Potatoes because I can't dig the field by myself, I know if you are here, you would have helped me".

The Son writes back,

"Dad don't even think of digging the field because that's where I buried all the money I stole."

 

The Police read the letter and the next Day the whole field was dug up looking for the money but nothing was found.

The following Day the son wrote again,

'Now plant your Potatoes dad, it's the best I can do from here'

Lesson:

You can imprison someone, but you can never imprison their ideas or Wisdom���.

It also shows that even when physically constrained, one’s thoughts and actions can influence and bring about change.

ጉድ ሳይሰማ መስከረም አይጠባም ማለት ድሮ ነበር ፡፡ ዛሬ ላይ ግን ሰማይ በጭለማ መሬት በጭቃ በሆነበት ሀምሌ ወር ተደጋጋሚ ጉድ ይሰማል፡፡ ይህ ሀምሌ አስራ ዘጠኝ ቀን በጯሂት በዕለተ ዕረቡዕ በሬ አርዶ የኢትዮጵያን ኃይማኖት እና ታሪክ ማራከስ አዲስም ድንገተኛም አይደለም ፡፡ ከሁሉ በፊት ወያኔ/ ኢህአዴግ በ1983 ዓ.ም. በሰሜን ምዕራብ ህዝብ ተጋድሎ እና ፊታዉራሪነት ከደደቢት በርኃ ቀበሮ ጉድጓድ ስቦ በማዉጣት ለመኃል አገር እና ለማዕከላዊ መንግስት አብቅቷል፡፡

ሆኖም ድመት መንኩሳ አመሏን አትረሳ እንዲሉ ኢ.ህ.አ.ዴ.ግ. ኢትዮጵያን ፣ ኢትዮጵያዊነትን እና መገለከጫዎችን ዕዉነታ እና ይሁንታ ማሳከር እና ማደናቆር ታሪክን ፣ዕምነትን እና ባህልን በሀሰተኛ ትርክት በማመሰቃቀል በጥላቻ እና በበታችነት ልክፍት ኢትዮጵያን እና ህዝቧን ማሳዘን እና መበቀል እንደነበር ከደደቢት የተቀዳ የጥፋት ጎርፍ ነበር ፡ ለዚህም ብዙ የሚነገሩ ቢኖሩም የህወኃት ታጣቂዎች ደብረ ማርቆስ በወርኃ ሁዳዴ የነስኃ እና የትንሳዔ ፆም ተክለ ኃይማኖት አደባባይ ላይ በንቀት እና በማን አለብኝነት በሬ አሳርደዉ አሻሻ ገዳሜ ሲሉ ህዝቡ በነቂስ ወጥቶ ሞት ለዉያኔ ብሏል በዚህም ብዙ ሠዉ በጭካኔ ተገድሏል፡፡

ያኔ ነበር ህጻናት ሳይቀሩ አ.ህ.አ.ዴ.ግ የልጂ ልጂህ አይደግህ በማለት አምርረዉ አዉግዘዋል፡፡

ይኸዉና አበዉ ጠላት በመቶ ዓመቱ የወተት ጥርስ ነዉ እንዲሉ ዛሬም በግላጭ በጎንደር ጯሂት ገዳማት የሆነዉ ከብዙዎች አንዱ የጥላቻ ማሳያ እንጂ አዲስም መጨረሻም አይሆንም፡፡

አማኞች ጫማጨዉን አዉልቀዉ በሚከበሯት ቤ/ክርስቲያን የእምነት ተከታይ ያልሆነ ጓዳ ጎድጓዳ ያለምንም ከልካይ በሚወጣ በሚገባባት እንደ አዲስ አያወሩ መታከት ለምንም ለማንም አይሆንም ፡፡

የኢትዮጵያን ታላቅነት ፣ጥንታዊነት፣ታሪካዊነት ከኢትዮጵያ ቀደምት ሠሪዎች፣መስራቾች እና መሪወች ዕዉነት በማይቀበሉ እና በተከበሩበት መንበር ለመቀመጥ፤ በተጠቀሙበት ዕቃ ለመጠቀም በፍርኃት እና በጥላቻ የሚመለከቱትን ገዳማት ክፍት መሆን ከዚህ በላይ ቢሆን የሚደነቅ ቢኖር ሰባዊነትም ፤ዕምነትም የከዳዉ መሆን አለበት ፡፡

ዕምነት ፤ኃይማኖት ፣ባህል እና አገርን ለያይቶ ማየት ያስከተለዉ መዘዝ እና አድር ባይነት የበዛበት ቸልተኝነት ኢትዮጵያን ከሚጠሉት ጋር የሚስማሙ የጂብ ጓደኛ ከጥንብ ያደርሳል እንዲሉ የሆነዉ እና የሚሆነዉ ሁሉ የታወቀ እና የተጠበቀ ነበር ፤ ነዉ፡፡ "ጥንብ ባለበት ሁሉ ጂብ አይጠፋም " እና ከታሪክ እና ከመከራ አለመማር አለመኖር ነዉ ፡፡

የጎሳ ፖለቲካ በኢትዮጵያ ሕልውና የተሰነቀረ ስለት ነው።

የአንድ አገር የፖለቲካ ተሳትፎ መደረግ ያለበት፤ በዜግነት በተመሠረተ የአመለካከት ተመሳሳይነት ስብስብ ነው። ይሄ መሠረታዊ እውነታነት ያለው የተለመደ ሂደት ነው። በትውልድ ትሥሥር የተመረኮዘ ድርጅት፤ የፖለቲካ ርዕዩተ ዓለም የለውም። ይሄም ሀቅ ነው። አማራ ብሎ ርዕዩተ ዓለም የለም። የአማራ የፖለቲካ ኢኮኖሚ ብሎ በርዕዩተ ዓለም የታገዘ የፖለቲካ ግንዛቤም የለም። ይሄ ሁሉ ትክክል ነው። በትክክል፤ የጎሳ ፖለቲካ በኢትዮጵያ ሕልውና የተሰነቀረ ስለት ነው። ወደፊት ለመሄድ፤ መጀመሪያ ይሄ ስለት ተነቅሎ መውጣትና መጣል አለበት። በሌላ በኩል ደግሞ፤ የፖለቲካ ትግል የሚካሄደው፤ በፅንፈ ሃሳብ ወይንም በአዕምሮ በመነጨ ትርክት ሳይሆን፤ በተጨባጩ የአገር የፖለቲካ እውነታ ነው። አሁን ባለንበት የፖለቲካ እውነታ፤ አማራው የግድ መደራጀት ያለበት መሆኑን የሚያስረዳ ትንታኔ አለኝ። እናም ንባብዎን ይቀጥሉ።

መጀመሪያ ይሄን ጽሑፍ እንዳዘጋጅ ያደረገኝን ላስረዳ። አገር ወዳድ ለሆን ኢትዮጵያዊያን በሙሉ፤ አገራችን ወደ መፍረስ መንገድ እንዳትጓዝ ምን መደረግ አለበት? የሚለው በጣም አሳስቦናል። ለዚህም ዋና መፍትሔ ብለን ሁላችንም የምናራምደው፤ በጎሳ የተመሠረተን የፖለቲካ ስርዓት ማስወገድ ነው። ይሄ ጥሩ ምኞት ነው። በርግጥ ሁሉም ነገር ከምኞት ይነሳል። ነገር ግን፤ የአንድ አገር የፖለቲካ ሂደት በተግባር የሚከናወነው፤ በአገሪቱ ካለው ተጨባጭ የፖለቲካ እውነታ ተነስቶ እንጂ፤ የግል ፍላጎታችንን ተመርኩዞ አይደለም። የአገራችን የፖለቲካ ክንውን፤ በተለይም ያለው ተጨባጭ እውነታ፤ ያለንበትን ፖለቲካ አሽከርካሪ ነው። አሁን አገራችን ላለችበት የፖለቲካ ሀቅ የዳረገን፤ በትግሬዎች ነፃ አውጪ ግንባር የተተከለው የጎሳ ፖለቲካ ሲሆን፤ በመቀጠልም የኦሮሞዎች ነፃነት ግንባር ይሄንኑ በከፋ ሁኔታ እንዲቀጥል ማድረጉ ነው።

አሁን በአገራችን ውስጥ፤ የጎሳ ፖለቲካን መሳሪያ አድርገው በሥልጣን ላይ የተቀመጡ የኦነግ መሪዎች፤ ተረኛ ነን ብለው፤ ይሄንኑ የጎሳ ፖለቲካ ተጠምጥመውበት እየገዙ ነው። ይህ ከትግሬዎች ነፃ አውጪ ግንባር ግዛት የቀጠለው የኦሮሞ ነፃነት ግንባር የጎሳ ፖለቲካ ስርዓት፤ በትኩረት “ኢትዮጵያን አፍርሼ የራሴ አድርጌ ጠፍጥፌ ለመመሥረት፤ አማራው ፅኑ ኢትዮጵያዊ ሆኖ አስቸግሮኛልና፤ ላጥፋው!” ብሎ ዘመቻ ከፍቷል። የአማራው ጥፋት፤ “ኢትዮጵያዊ ነኝ!” ብሎ መጋተሩ ነው። በአማራዎች ላይ እየደረሰ ያለው በደል፤ ስለ አማራዎች እንዲህ ወይንም እንዲያ መሆን ሳይሆን፤ ስለ ፀረ–አማራዎች እውቀት ማነስ፣ ግትርነትና አረመኔነት ነው የሚነግረን። አማራዎች የማንንም ሀብት አልዘረፉም፣ የማንንም መሬት አልወሰዱም፣ የማንንም ባህል አልደፈሩም፤ ይልቁንም ማንነታቸው ወንጀል ሆኖ እየተበደሉ ናቸው። ይሄ ሀቅ ነው።

ይሄ ያለንበት ሀቅ ሆኖ፤ አሁን አማራዎች፤ “አማራነታችን ወንጀል አይደለም!” “በአማራነታችን የትም የአገራችን የኢትዮጵያ መሬት ሰፍረን መኖር እንችላለን!” “በአገራችን በኢትዮጵያ የፖለቲካ ሂደት እኩል ከሌሎች ጋር መሳተፍ መብታችን ነው!” ብለን ተነስተናል። ለኔ ይህ የያንዳንዱ ኢትዮጵያዊና ኢትዮጵያዊት ጉዳይ ነው። ይህ የአማራዎች ብቻ ጉዳይ አይደለም። እናም ሁሉም ኢትዮጵያዊያን አብረውን ሊቆሙ ይገባቸዋል። አዎ! አማራዎች አምፀናል። አዎ! አማራዎች በአማራነታችን ተደራጅተናል። የተደራጀንበት ያንተም፣ ያንቺም፣ የርስዎም ጉዳይ ነው። በአማራነታችን ልንደራጅ ያስገደደን፤ የአማራ መንግሥት ለማቋቋም ስለፈለግብ አይደለም። በአማራነታችን እንድንደራጅ ያደረገን፤ አማራነታችንን በሌሎች ላይ ለመጫን አይደለም። በአማራነታችን የተደራጀነው፤ “አማራ መሆን ወንጀል ነው!” ብለው ስለተነሱብን፤ ይሄን ለመቋቋም ነው። ይሄ ደግሞ የእያንዳንዳችን ኢትዮጵያዊያን ጉዳይ ነው። በትክክል ይሄን ለመቋቋም፤ አማራ መሆን ወይንም በአማራነት ብቻ መደራጀትና መታገል ግድ አይደለም። ነገር ግን፤ በተጨባጩ ነባራዊ ሀቅ፤ አማራ ናችሁና ልግደላችሁ ስንባል፤ አዎ! አማራዎች ነን! በአማራነታችን ደግሞ አንገደልም! አማራነታችንን ማስከበር እንችላለን! ብለናል። አገራችን ኢትዮጵያ ናት! ከዚህ የሚያነቃንቀን ማንም የለም! ብለናል። አማራዎች “እኛ!” “እናንተ!” የሚል አጥር የለንም። እናም ይሄን በጎሳ የተመረኮዘ ጥቃት፤ እያንዳንዳችን ኢትዮጵያዊያን መቃወም አለብን። የአማራዎች መደራጀት፤ ኢትዮጵያዊነትን ለመጠበቅ ነው። በአማራነት ላይ የተነሳው የአክራሪ ኦሮሞዎች ዘመቻ፤ ነገ በሌሎች ላይ የሚጫን ፍዳ ነው! ዛሬ ከአማራዎች ጎን መቆም፤ ነገ የራስን ሕልውና መጠበቅ ነው። አማራዎች ከኢትዮጵያ መሬት ቆርሰን፣ ከኢትዮጵያ ነፃ ልንወጣ፣ ሌሎችን አማራዎች ለማድረግ አልተነሳንም።

ለሕዝባዊ አመጽ መነሻ የሚሆነው፤ በአገሪቱ ያለው የፖለቲካ እውነታ ነው። ለአመጽ የሚገፋውን ሂደት የሚወስነው፤ የአገሪቱ የአገዛዝ ስልት እየሄደበት ያለው መንገድ ነው። ዛሬ ከሰላሳ ዓመታት በላይ በጎሳ ፖለቲካ ተተብትቦ የተያዘውን የኢትዮጵያ የፖለቲካ ሂደት ለማፍረስና ትክክለኛ አገራዊ የፖለቲካ ስርዓት የማንገሥ መንገዱ፤ ስርዓቱ ደካማ በሆነበት ቦታ ሲበጠስ ነው። ደካማ ጎኑ ደግሞ ኢትዮጵያዊ ነኝ የሚለው አማራ መደራጀቱና ሌሎቹን በጎኑ እንዲሰለፉ ማድረጉ ነው። በአእምሯችን ብቻ በሳልነው እውነታ፤ ኢትዮጵያዊያን ተሰባስበው የሚታገሉበት የፖለቲካ መድረክ መፍጠር፤ ከምኞት አያልፍም። “አይሁን!” የሚል የለም። ነገር ግን፤ ባሁኑ ሰዓት ይሄ ይሆናል ብሎ ማሰቡ፤ ከተጨባጩ ሀቅ ጋር አይዛመድም። እናም ቀዳዳው፤ ከአማራው ጎን ተሰልፎ፤ ማንም በማንነቱ መጠቃት የለበትም፣ የትውልድ ማንነት በአገራችን የፖለቲካ ምሕዳር መሳተፊያ መሆን የለበትም! መጠቂያም መሆንም የለበትም! ብሎ መነሳት ነው።

ጠቅላይ ሚኒስትር አብይ አሕመድ፤ “ኢትዮጵያ!” “ኢትዮጵያ!” ማለታቸው ብቻ ሳይሆን፤ “ሚሊዮን ዛፎችን ተከልኩ!” “በተቀበሩበት ጥላ እንዲያገኙ አደረግሁ!” “ሕጋዊ ደሃ አደረግኋቸው!” እያሉ በተግባር ምን እያደረጉ እንደሆነ ሁላችን እያየን ነው። ቅን የሚሏቸው አሉ። ግለሰቦችን ቅን ወይንም ሀቀኛ የሚያደርጋቸው፤ ሰዎች የሚፈልጉትን ተናጋሪነታቸው ሳይሆን፤ ከሰዎች ፍላጎት ውጪ እውነታውን ተናጋሪነታቸው ነው። ጠቅላይ ሚኒስትር አብይ አሕመድ ለኢትዮጵያ ሕዝብ፤ ተግባራዊ ያልሆነ፤ “ኢትዮጵያ በደሜ!” ይላሉ። በሌላ በኩል ደግሞ ለኦሮሞ ፅንፈኞች፤ እነሱ የሚፈልጉትን መናገር ብቻ ሳይሆን፤ የሚፈልጉትንም እያደረጉላቸው ነው። በያዝነው ሂደት፤ የአክራሪ ኦሮሞዎች የበላይነት እንጂ፤ የአዲሲቱ ኢትዮጵያ በትክክለኛ የዴሞክራሲያዊ መንገድ ተጓዥነት ይመጣል ብሎ መመኘት፤ የዋህነት ነው።

ለማጠቃለል፤ ጥቂቶቹ አገር ወዳድ ኢትዮጵያዊያን፤ በዛ ያሉት አማራዎች ናቸው፤ “ኢትዮጵያ የምትድነው የጎሳ ፖለቲካ ሲወገድ ነው!” እናም “በአገር አቀፍ ደረጃ ስንሰባሰብ ብቻ ነው ትክክል የሚሆነው!” ይሄ ካልሆነ፤ “ኢትዮጵያ ትበታተናለች!” ብለው ቆመዋል። ይህ አቋም ግን ሊሠራ የሚችለው፤ ሁሉም ነገር ትክክለኛ መስመር ሲይዝ ነው። አሁን ያለንበት የተመሰቃቀለው የፖለቲካ ሀቅ፤ በትክክለኛ መንገድ የሚያስኬድ ሳይሆን፤ ማረሚያ የሚፈልግ እውነታ ነው። ለማረም ደግሞ፤ የጎበጠውን ወደ ተቃራኒው ማጉበጥ ያስፈልጋል። በትክክል ከተያዘና መንገድ ካልሳተ፤ በአማራነት ተደራጅቶ መታገል ትክክለኛ መፍትሔ ነው። ለዚህ ማስተማመኛው፤ አማራዎች መላ ኢትዮጵያን አገራችን ያልን መሆናቸው ብቻ ሳይሆን፤ አማራነትን የፖለቲካ ስርዓት ሳናደርግ፤ ራስን ከጥቃት ለመከላከያ መታገያ ማድረጋችን ነው። አማራዎች፤ ይሄ የኔ! ያ የኢትዮጵያ! የምንለው የለንም። ሁሉንም ነገር ለኢትዮጵያ አስረክበናል። እናም ከኢትዮጵያ ተለይተን የምንቆምበት መሬት የለንም። የአማራዎችን ኢትዮጵያዊነት ለማወቅ ቆዳችንን መፋቅ አያስፈልግም። ራሱ ቁመናችን ከቅርብም ከሩቅም ኢትዮጵያዊነት ነው።

ጉድ ሳይሰማ መስከረም አይጠባም ማለት ድሮ ነበር ፡፡ ዛሬ ላይ ግን ሰማይ በጭለማ መሬት በጭቃ በሆነበት ሀምሌ ወር ተደጋጋሚ ጉድ ይሰማል፡፡ ይህ ሀምሌ አስራ ዘጠኝ ቀን በጯሂት በዕለተ ዕረቡዕ በሬ አርዶ የኢትዮጵያን ኃይማኖት እና ታሪክ ማራከስ አዲስም ድንገተኛም አይደለም ፡፡ ከሁሉ በፊት ወያኔ/ ኢህአዴግ በ1983 ዓ.ም. በሰሜን ምዕራብ ህዝብ ተጋድሎ እና ፊታዉራሪነት ከደደቢት በርኃ ቀበሮ ጉድጓድ ስቦ በማዉጣት ለመኃል አገር እና ለማዕከላዊ መንግስት አብቅቷል፡፡

ሆኖም ድመት መንኩሳ አመሏን አትረሳ እንዲሉ ኢ.ህ.አ.ዴ.ግ. ኢትዮጵያን ፣ ኢትዮጵያዊነትን እና መገለከጫዎችን ዕዉነታ እና ይሁንታ ማሳከር እና ማደናቆር ታሪክን ፣ዕምነትን እና ባህልን በሀሰተኛ ትርክት በማመሰቃቀል በጥላቻ እና በበታችነት ልክፍት ኢትዮጵያን እና ህዝቧን ማሳዘን እና መበቀል እንደነበር ከደደቢት የተቀዳ የጥፋት ጎርፍ ነበር ፡ ለዚህም ብዙ የሚነገሩ ቢኖሩም የህወኃት ታጣቂዎች ደብረ ማርቆስ በወርኃ ሁዳዴ የነስኃ እና የትንሳዔ ፆም ተክለ ኃይማኖት አደባባይ ላይ በንቀት እና በማን አለብኝነት በሬ አሳርደዉ አሻሻ ገዳሜ ሲሉ ህዝቡ በነቂስ ወጥቶ ሞት ለዉያኔ ብሏል በዚህም ብዙ ሠዉ በጭካኔ ተገድሏል፡፡

ያኔ ነበር ህጻናት ሳይቀሩ አ.ህ.አ.ዴ.ግ የልጂ ልጂህ አይደግህ በማለት አምርረዉ አዉግዘዋል፡፡

ይኸዉና አበዉ ጠላት በመቶ ዓመቱ የወተት ጥርስ ነዉ እንዲሉ ዛሬም በግላጭ በጎንደር ጯሂት ገዳማት የሆነዉ ከብዙዎች አንዱ የጥላቻ ማሳያ እንጂ አዲስም መጨረሻም አይሆንም፡፡

አማኞች ጫማጨዉን አዉልቀዉ በሚከበሯት ቤ/ክርስቲያን የእምነት ተከታይ ያልሆነ ጓዳ ጎድጓዳ ያለምንም ከልካይ በሚወጣ በሚገባባት እንደ አዲስ አያወሩ መታከት ለምንም ለማንም አይሆንም ፡፡

የኢትዮጵያን ታላቅነት ፣ጥንታዊነት፣ታሪካዊነት ከኢትዮጵያ ቀደምት ሠሪዎች፣መስራቾች እና መሪወች ዕዉነት በማይቀበሉ እና በተከበሩበት መንበር ለመቀመጥ፤ በተጠቀሙበት ዕቃ ለመጠቀም በፍርኃት እና በጥላቻ የሚመለከቱትን ገዳማት ክፍት መሆን ከዚህ በላይ ቢሆን የሚደነቅ ቢኖር ሰባዊነትም ፤ዕምነትም የከዳዉ መሆን አለበት ፡፡

ዕምነት ፤ኃይማኖት ፣ባህል እና አገርን ለያይቶ ማየት ያስከተለዉ መዘዝ እና አድር ባይነት የበዛበት ቸልተኝነት ኢትዮጵያን ከሚጠሉት ጋር የሚስማሙ የጂብ ጓደኛ ከጥንብ ያደርሳል እንዲሉ የሆነዉ እና የሚሆነዉ ሁሉ የታወቀ እና የተጠበቀ ነበር ፤ ነዉ፡፡ "ጥንብ ባለበት ሁሉ ጂብ አይጠፋም " እና ከታሪክ እና ከመከራ አለመማር አለመኖር ነዉ ፡፡

 አቶ ዮሐንስን የምትወቅሱ፤  የየሱስና የጳውሎስን ታሪክ አትርሱ 
“ንስሐ ካማያስፈልጋቸው ከዘጠና ዘጠኝ ጻድቃን ይልቅ፣ ንሰሐ በሚገባ ባንድ ኃጢያተኛ ሰማያት ይደሰታሉ።” (ሉቃስ 15፡7)

አቶ ዮሐንስ ቧያለው በቅርቡ ባደረገው ንግግር ሳቢያ አያሌ አወዳሽና አሞጋሾችን ሲያፈራ፣ በዚያው ልክ (እንደውም ከዚያው በበለጠ) ደግሞ አያሌ ወቃሾችና ከሳሾች ተነስተውበታል።  ያቶ ዮሐንስን ያለፈ ታሪክ እያነሱ ባሁኑ ንግግሩ የሚወቅሱትና የሚከሱት ወያኔወችና ኦነጎች በተለይም ደግሞ ጭራቅ አሕመዳውያን ባይሆኑ እንጂ ቢሆኑ አያስገርምም።  የሚያስገርመው ግን የወያኔና የኦነግ ሰለባ የሆኑት አማሮች፣ ያለፈውን ያቶ ዮሐንስን ታሪክ እያጣቀሱ አቶ ዮሐንስን ባሁኑ ንግግሩ ሲወቅሱትና ሲከሱት ማየት ነው።

አቶ ዮሐንስ ቧያለው (ከልቡ ሆነም አልሆነም) “በሴራ ፖለቲካ ተበልጠናል፣ ነገ ሊገሉኝ ይችላሉ፣ አፋኝና ጨቋኝ መንግሥት እንዳለን ማወቅ አለብን፣ መከላከያ ወዳማራ ክልል የገባው በማን ፈቃድ ነው፣ መከላከያን የፈጠርነው ሊከላከለን እንጅ ሊያሳድደን አይደለም፣ ወዘተ ...) በማለት ሲናገር፣ ያማራን ሕዝብ የሕልውና ትግል፣ በተለይም ደግሞ የፕሮፓጋንዳውን ዘርፍ እጅግ በጣም እንደጠቀመ ለመረዳት የፖለቲካ ተንታኝ መሆንን አይጠይቅም።  ስለዚህም በብልጽግና አባልነቱ ውስጥ አዋቂ የሆነው አቶ ዮሐንስ ቧያለው ብልጽግናን በተለይም ደግሞ ጭራቅ አሕመድን በዚህ ደረጃ ሲያጋልጥልን ከኛ የሚጠበቅብን እንዲቀጥልበት ማበረታታት ብቻ ነው።

በሌላ በኩል ደግሞ አንዴ ወንጀለኛ ሁሌ ወንጀለኛ አይደለም።  ከወንጀላቸው ተጸጸተው በመመለስ፣ የተወነጀሉበትን በብዙ እጥፍ የሚክሱ ታላላቅ ሰወች ነበሩ፣ አሉ፣ ወደፊትም ይኖራሉ።  ለምሳሌ ያህል የክርስትና መሠረት እየሱስ ቢሆንም፣ ክርስትናን የዓለም ሐይማኖት ያደረገው ግን እየሱስን በጽኑ ያሳድድ የነበረውና በማሳደዱ በጽኑ የተጸጸተው ሐዋርያው ጳውሎስ መሆኑን መዘንጋት የለብንም።  የወያኔና የኦነግ ጃንደረባ ወይም ደንገጡር በመሆን ባማራ ሕዝብ ላይ የፈጸምኩት ወንጀል ጸጽቶኛል የሚል የብአዴን አባልንም መመልከት ያለብን በዚህ እይታ ነው (በውነት መጸጸት አለመጸጸቱን ለማወቅ ድርጊቱን ባይነቁራኛ እየታዘብን)።

ከጸጸት የሚበልጥ አነሳሳሽ ስሜት የለም።  በወንጀላቸው በጽኑ የተጸጸቱ ወንጀለኞች፣ ወንጀልን እና ወንጀለኛን ከአልወንጀለኞች በላይ በጽኑ እንደሚጠሉና እንደሚታገሉ የታወቀ ነው።  ጭራቅ አሕመድን ጨርቅ ለማድረግ፣ የጭራቅ አሕመድ ግብራበር በመሆን ባማራ ሕዝብ ላይ በሠራው ወንጀል በጽኑ ከተጸጸተ የብአዴን አባል የሚበልጥ ጠቃሚ ሰው የለም።  ለምሳሌ ያህል ባንድ ወቅት የጭራቅ አሕመድ ቀንደኛ ደጋፊ የነበሩና በደጋፊነታቸው የተጸጸቱ የሚመስሉ የሚዲያ ሰወች፣ ባሁኑ ወቅት ለፀረጭራቅ አሕመድ ተጋድሎ እያደረጉ ያሉትን ጉልህ አስተዋጽኦ በጉልህ እያሳዩን ነው።

ድል የሚገኘው የጠላትን ሰፈር በማዳከምና የራስን ሰፈር በማጠናከር ነው።  የጠላትን ወንጀል በማጋለጥ ከጠላት ሰፈር ወጥተናል ብለው በይፋ የሚያውጁ ሰወች (በውነት ወጡም አልወጡም)፣ በጠላት ተራ ካድሬና ተራ ወታደር ላይ ሽብር ስለሚለቁበት የጠላትን ሰፈር ያፍረከርኩታል፣ ወገንን ደግሞ ጠላትን በጽኑ እንዲታገል ይበልጥ ያነሳሱታል።  ያቶ ዮሐንስ ቧያለው ንግግር ደግሞ ያማራን ሕዝብ ለሕልውናው ትግል ይበልጥ እንዳነሳሳና፣ በጭራቅ አሕመድ ካድሬወችና ወታደሮች ላይ ከፍተኛ ድንጋጤ እንደፈጠረ አሌ ማለት አይቻልም።  ስለዚህም አቶ ዮሐንስን ባሁኑ ንግግሩ አይዞህ ልነለው ይገባናል።  አቶ ዮሐንስን አይዞህ ስንል ሲያዩ ደግሞ ሌሎች ብአዴኖች ያቶ ዮሐንስን ፈለግ ለመከተል ይነሳሳሉ።

አማራን ያሳደድ የነበረ የብአዴን አባል፣ በወንጀሉ ተጸጽቶ ያማራ ሕዝብ መድሕን የማይሆንበት ምንም ምክኒያት የለም፣ ምንም እንኳን የብአዴን አባል ያማራ መድሕን ከሚሆን፣ ግመል በመርፌ ቀዳዳ ብታልፍ ቢቀልም።  ቀንደኛው ፀራማራ አቶ በረከት ስምዖን በአማራ ሕዝብ ላይ የሠራው ትልቁ ወንጀል፣ ብአዴንን የፈጠረው አማራ ጠል ጌቶቻቸውን ለማስደሰት ሲሉ ማናቸውንም ወንጀል በአማራ ሕዝብ ላይ ለመፈጸም ቅንጣት የማያቅማሙ ታዛዥ ውሾች የሆኑትን፣ የጃግሬኔት (follower) ሰብዕና አለመጥን የተጠናወታቸውን የደመቀ መኮንንን ዓይነት መፃጉወች በማሾ እየፈለገ በማሰባሰብ መሆኑ ነው፡፡

በወንጀሉ ተጸጽቶ ያማራን ሕዝብ የሕልውና ትግል ልቀላቀል የሚል ከሺ አንድ የብአዴን አባል ሲገኝ ግን፣ ካማራ ሕዝብ የሚጠበቀው፣ በወንጀሉ የተጸጸተውን አባል እጁን ዘርግቶ በመቀበል ወንጀሉን በሺ እጥፍ እንዲክስና የወያኔንና የኦነግን ግብአተ መሬት እንዲያፋጥን ማመቻቸት ነው።  ያማራ ሕዝብ ይህን ሲያደርግ ሲያዩ ደግሞ፣ ሌሎች የብአዴን አባሎች በወንጀላቸው ተጸጽተው ትግሉን ለመቀላቀል ይበልጥ ይበረታታሉ።  ትግሉም ይበልጥ እየተቀጣጠለ፣ ወያኔንና ኦነግን ይበልጥ እያቃጠለ፣ ተንጨርጭረው /ድብን/ የሚሉበትን ቀን ይበልጥ እያቃረበ ይሄዳል።

Egypt and Ethiopia have waged a diplomatic war of words over Ethiopia’s massive new dam – the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam – on the Blue Nile, which started filling up in July 2020. The political row has threatened to get out of hand on occasion but now the two countries have finally agreed to conclude “a mutually acceptable agreement” within four months. We asked John Mukum Mbaku, the author of a recent article on the Ethiopian dam and a co-author of a book on the Nile River’s changing legal regime, to answer four key questions.

What is the context of the current tussle?

Ethiopia, whose highlands provide more than 85% of the water that flows into the Nile, has long argued that it has the right under international law to manage resources within its own borders for its national development. It sees the “Nile as a gift of God” given to Ethiopians to use for their development.

Egypt, which depends on the Nile for more than 90% of its fresh water, has argued that the Ethiopian dam represents a threat to its water security and its very existence as a people.

The decision by Addis Ababa to begin construction of the dam on the Blue Nile in 2011 exacerbated an already deteriorating relationship between Ethiopia and its two downstream neighbours, Egypt and Sudan, over access to Nile waters. After Egypt’s diplomatic efforts failed to stop construction, Cairo redirected its energies to securing a legally binding agreement for filling and operating the dam.

But no mutually acceptable agreement for filling and operating the dam was ever reached.

In August 2020, Addis Ababa began to fill the dam’s reservoir. That process was repeated in 2021 and 2022.

In 2023, Ethiopian prime minister Abiy Ahmed announced that the country would delay the fourth filling until September “to alleviate the concerns of neighbouring people”.

The dam’s reservoir filling in particular, and its operation in general, are issues that the three countries must resolve, most likely through a legally binding agreement or treaty.

In February 2022, the Ethiopian dam started producing electricity. Egyptians claimed that Addis Ababa was “violating its obligations under the 2015 Declaration of Principles” and endangering Egyptian “water interests”.

What are the main sticking points going into the talks?

An agreement would have to explicitly deal with issues that are important to Egypt, Ethiopia and Sudan. The most important are Egypt’s and Sudan’s historically acquired rights to Nile waters. The rights were granted by the 1929 Anglo-Egyptian Treaty and the 1959 bilateral agreement between Egypt and Sudan (1959 Nile Treaty).

After estimating the average annual flow of the Nile River as measured at Aswan to be 84 billion cubic metres, the two treaties granted 66% of Nile waters to Egypt, 22% to Sudan and 12% to account for seepage and evaporation. These allocations exhausted all the Nile’s average annual flow of water. Egypt was also granted veto power over all construction projects on the Nile and its tributaries.

These rights came to be known as Egypt’s and Sudan’s acquired rights. They have been the main sticking point in efforts to conclude a treaty between all 11 Nile riparian states for the allocation of the waters of the Nile, as well as between Egypt, Ethiopia and Sudan over the Ethiopian dam.

While Ethiopia and other upstream riparian states see these two treaties as colonial anachronisms that have no relevance to modern Nile governance, Egypt and Sudan insist that they are binding.

What impact would a breakthrough have on other Nile Basin agreements?

The impact will depend on what type of agreement is reached. Assume that both Egypt and Sudan agree to abandon the rights granted by the 1929 and 1959 treaties. They could then enter into negotiation with Ethiopia to produce a new treaty that creates rights for all three states.

Such a treaty could provide the impetus for all 11 Nile Basin states to return to the Cooperative Framework Agreement, which was expected to provide a legal framework for governing the Nile based on equitable and reasonable water use. The framework agreement has been in limbo since Egypt and Sudan rejected it.

The other Nile Basin states see these colonial-era treaties as a violation of international law principles, and a breach of the vision of the Nile Basin Initiative.

What other claims threaten the status quo?

Egypt fears that if Addis Ababa is allowed to fill the reservoir without a legally binding agreement, other Nile Basin states might also take unilateral actions. This could harm Egypt’s water security and ability to control projects on the Nile River and its tributaries.

Then, there is the matter of how to manage issues related to climate change, such as droughts and floods. The existence of the dam means Addis Ababa’s cooperation will be required. In times of drought, for example, the Ethiopian dam will be expected to release some water to help Egypt and Sudan.

Ethiopia’s right to water for agriculture and household consumption is an issue that has not yet been agreed upon by all three countries.

Egypt and Sudan are worried about the harm that could come to them from activities upstream. Egypt remains adamant that the dam will hurt its water supply and threaten domestic development.

But Sudanese officials appear to have changed their assessment of the impact of the dam. They now see it as a potential regulator of seasonal floods and provider of clean energy.

These issues should be examined thoroughly during the negotiations. The three countries should adopt a treaty or agreement that is mutually acceptable and beneficial.

Over the years, the three countries have struggled to bring meaning to terms like “significant harm” and “equitable and reasonable utilisation”. The final treaty should define these terms. It should also create a mediation mechanism, which can include referring certain specified matters to the International Court of Justice for resolution.

ስለምን እንክርዳድ ዘርተን ስንዴ ማጨድ አማረን? - በዳዊት ሳሙኤል
ይህንን የዛሬውን ጽሁፌን ከመጻፍ ይልቅ ምን ርእስ ልስጠው እሚለው ነበር ቀናቶችን የፈጀብኝ። ብዙ ሰዎች በዚች አጭር አርባ ምናምን አመትህ እንዴት ይህንን ሁሉ ሰው አገኘህ? ብለው ይጠይቁኛል። ሀሜተኞቹም በደካማ አእምሮአቸው ስም ያወጡልኛል። ሳገኛቸው እጅግ ስሜቴን መቆጣጠር ካቃተኝ ውስጥ አንዱ ዶ/ር አረጋዊ በርሄን ነበር። በርግጥ የቦብ ማርሌን እናት፣ የሱፍ ያሲንን፣ ልኡል ዶ/ር አስፋው ወሰንን፣  የጋናውን የዲሞክራሲ አባት ጀሪ ሮቢንሰንን፣ በ1977 we are the world በሚል ያቀነቀነውን ቦብ ጊልዶፍን ( አቶ ገ/መድህን ስለ ገንዘቡ የት ገባ ያጋለጠውን)  በህይወት አጋጣሚ ሳገኛቸው ተመሳሳይ ስሜት ተሰምቶኛል።

በ2016 እኤአ ጀኔቫ ከተማ ከዋናው ለገሀር ፊት ለፊት ካለች ላብራሴር የምትል ቢራ ቤት ከሶስት ሀበሾች ጋር ቁጭ ብየ እነሱ ቢራ ይጋብዙኛል። እውነት ለመናገር በወቅቱ ት/ት ቤቴ የሚሰጠኝን አበል ጀኔቫ ላይ እንኳን ቢራ ሊያስጠጣ የትራንስፖርት ትኬት ለመግዛት እቸገር ነበር።

የተለመደውን የፖለቲካ ክርክር ከእነዛ ውድ ኢትዮጵያውያን ጋር እያደረግን ድንገት አንድ ቁመተ መለሎ፣ አፍንጫው ስልክክ ያለ ድምጹ ጎርናና ሰው ሰላምታ ሰጥቶን ቁጭ አለ።

ዶ/ር አረጋዊ ነው ተዋወቀው አሉኝ። እኔ ይህንን ድምጽ የት ነው እማውቀው፣ ፊቱም አዲስ አልሆነብኝ እያልኩ አእምሮየን በማስጨነቅ ላይ ነበርኩ።

በአእምሮየ ከልጅነቴ ጀምሮ በዶቼቨሌ፣ በቪኢኤ፣ በጦቢያ መጽሄት ዘወትር የምከታተለው ሰው ነው። በተጨማሪ ስለ ህወሓት ታሪክ የመመረቂያ ጽሁፉን ልቅም አድርጌ አንብቤው ነበር። ዝም ብየ ፊቱን እያየሁ የጀመሩትን ውይይት አዳምጥ ጀመር። ተጫዎት እንጅ? ይሉኛል እነ ውሂበ። ለአርባ አመት ሀገሩ ገብቶ የማያውቅ ሌላው አስደናቂ ታሪክ ያለው ሰው።

ይቅርታ ዶ/ር ዛሬ አንተን በዚህ አጋጣሚ ስላገኘሁህ የተሰማኝን ደስታ ልገልጽህ አልችልም። መጽሀፍን አንብቤዋለሁ። በአእምሮየ የሚመላለሱብኝ ሶስት መሰረታዊ ጥያቄዎች አሉኝ ፈቃደኛ ነህ ትመልስልኛለኝ? አልኩት።

አማራን በተመለከተ እኛ ህዝቡን ሳይሆን የአማራን ፊውዳልን ነበር ጥላት ያልነው። ኦርቶዶክስንም እንዲሁ ከፊውዳሊዝም ጋር አገናኝተነው ነው። እርዳታ የሰጣችሁ ማነው ላልከኝ ያው ትግል ስትጀምር መጀመሪያ በራስህ ሀብት ትጀምራለህ፣ ምርኮ ትማርካለህ ጉልበት እያወጣህ ስትመጣ ሁሉን ወደ አንተ ይመጣል። ብሎ መለሰልኝ። መልሱ አላረካኝም። ግን ቀጥየ መከራከር አልፈለኩም።

እነሆ ዛሬ ሁሉም ፍንትው ብሎ ለሁላችንም ግልጽ ሁኖ መጣ። በማኒፌስቶው ላይ አማራ ጠላታችን ነው፣ ኦርቶዶክስን እናፈርሳለን ብለው ገና ከጧቱ ወጣቶችን መልምለው ግማሾቹ ወደ ቤተ ክህነት ፣ግማሾቹ ወደ ቤተ መንግስት አንድ አይነት የፖለቲካ ርእዮት ጠጥተው ተሰማርተው እነሆ ፖለቲካውን እነ ደብረ ጽዮን ፣ ቤተ ክህነቱን እነ አቡነ መርሀ ክርስቶስ ተቆጥጥረው አንድ ወንበር ላይ በጋራ ቁጭ ብለዋል።

ከሀምሳ አመት ጉዞ በኋላ ለዚህ ደረጃ በቅተዋል። ኢትዮጵያን እናፍርስ ብለው በመቶ ሽህ ወጣት አስበልተዋል፣ ህዝቡን ቅጠል እስኪበላ ድረስ አድርሰውታል። እነሆ አሁን ቤተክርስቲያኑን አፍርሰው የሚመጣውን በጋራ እናያለን።

መልካም የመገንጠል ዘመን። የወደዳችሁትን አድርጋችኋል። ሽፍንፍኑ ሁሉ ግሀድ ወጥቷል። ተጨማሪ ጥያቄም መልስም አያስፈልገንም።

በምክኒያት የሚጠላህን ጠላት፣ የጥላቻውን ምክኒያት በማስወገድ ጥላቻውን ማስወገድ ትችል ይሆናል።  በማንነትህ የሚጠላህን ጠላት ግን፣ የሚጠላው ድርጊትህን ሳይሆን ማንነትህን ስለሆነ ምንም ብታደርግለት ጥላቻውን ማስወገድ አትችልም።  በማንነትህ የሚጠላህን ጠላት ጥላቻውን አስወግዳለሁ ብለህ ስትለማመጠው በጥላቻው ላይ ንቀት ይጨምርበትና ይበልጥ ይጠላሃል፣ ስትጠላው ግን ጥላቻው በከበሬታ ይለዝባል።

ለዚህ ጥሩ ምሳሌ የመጀመርያው ያሜሪቃ “ጥቁር” ፊምበር (president) ባራክ ኦባማ (Barak Obama) ነው።  ኦባማ ለሚወዱት ጥቁሮች ከሚያስበው በላይ በማነነቱ ለሚጠሉት ነጮች (በተለይም ደግሞ ሪፓብሊካኖች) በመጨነቅ ይበልጥና ይበልጥ ሲለማመጣቸው፣ ለሱ ያላቸው ከበሬታ ይበልጥና ይበልጥ እየቀነሰ፣ ይበልጥና ይበልጥ እየናቁትና፣ ንቀታቸውም ጥላቻቸውን ይበልጥና ይበልጥ እያመረረው ሄደ።  እሱም ከሁለት ያጣ ጎመን ሆነ።  ነጮቹ በጥቁር ዘረኝነት እየከሰሱት እንደሚጠሉት፣ እሱም ይውጣላችሁ ብሎ ለጥቁሮች የበለጠ ቢያስብ ኖሮ፣ ባይወዱትም ስለማይንቁት ከበሬታቸው ጥላቻቸውን ባለዘበው ነበር።

ጥቁር አሜሪቃውያን ደግሞ በእውናዊው ዓለም የትም የማያደርሰውን የማርቲን ሉተርን ምናባዊ መንገድ ከመከተል ይልቅ፣ በነባራዊ እውነታ ላይ የተመሠረተውን የማልኮልም ኤክስን እውናዊ መንገድ በመከተል ዓይን፣ ለዓይን፣ ጥርስ፣ ለጥርስ በማለት የሚገድላቸውን እገባበት ገብተው እየገደሉ ነጭ ለሚፈጽምባቸው ጭካኔ የቻሉትን ያህል አጸፋ ቢሰጡ ኖሮ፣  በማንነታቸው የሚጠላቸውን ነጭን በግብራቸው ሳይወድ በግዱ እንዲያከብራቸው ባደረጉት ነበር።  ዘረኛ ፖሊስ ወይም ኬኬኬ (KKK) ማናቸውንም እኩይ ድርጊት ሊፈጽምባቸው ከመነሳሳቱ በፊት ደግሞ አጸፋውን በመፍራት ሺ ጊዜ እንዲያስብና እንዲያሰላስል ባስገደዱት ነበር።  የሚሽሽህን ብትከተለው የሽሽት ፍጥነቱን ይጨምራል፣ አንተም ብትሸሸው ግን ቢያንስ ባለበት ይቆማል።

ያማራ ሕዝብ ሆይ፣ ወያኔና ኦነገ የሚጠሉህ በማንነትህ ስለሆነ፣ ከጊዜ ወደ ጊዜ ይበልጥና ይበልጥ እየጠሉህ የመጡት ይበልጥና ይበልጥ እየተለማመጥካቸው ስለሆነ ብቻ ነው።  አያሌ ልጆችህን ለወያኔ አልሞ ተኳሾች ገብረህ ለጠቅላይ ሚኒስትርነት ያበቃኸው ጭራቅ አሕመድ፣ ይብልጥና ይበልጥ ጭራቅ እየሆነብህ የመጣው፣ ይበልጥና ይበልጥ እየተለማመጥከው ስለሆነ ብቻ ነው።

ስለዚህም ያማራ ሕዝብ ሆይ፣ በማንነትህ ስለሚጠሉህ መቸም ከማይወዱህ ከወያኔና ከኦነግ ጭራቆች መዳኛህ መንገድ አንድና አንድ ብቻ ሲሆን፣ እሱም እነሱ የሚጠሉህን ያህል እንዲያውም እጥፍ እነሱን መጥላት ነው።  እነሱ የሚያንቋሽሹህን ያህል እንደውም እጥፍ እነሱን ማንቋሸሽ ነው።  እነሱ የሚፈጽሙብህን ጭካኔ ያህል እንዲያውም እጥፍ በነሱ ላይ መፈጸም ነው።  እነሱ አንተን ለማጥፋት ቆርጠው በተነሱበት ደረጃ፣ እንደውም በእጥፍ ደረጃ አንተም እነሱን ለማጥፋት ቆርጠህ መነሳት ነው።  ወይ እኔ ወይ እነሱ ብለህ ምለህ መገዘት ነው።  አንተ እነሱን ካላጠፋሃቸው እነሱን እንተን እንደሚያጠፉህ በገሃድ እያሳዩህ ስለሆነ፣  የወያኔና የኦነግ ጅቦች ከሚበሉህ ብልተሃቸው ተቀደስ።

What are the main sticking points going into the talks?


An agreement would have to explicitly deal with issues that are important to Egypt, Ethiopia and Sudan. The most important are Egypt’s and Sudan’s historically acquired rights to Nile waters. The rights were granted by the 1929 Anglo-Egyptian Treaty and the 1959 bilateral agreement between Egypt and Sudan (1959 Nile Treaty).

After estimating the average annual flow of the Nile River as measured at Aswan to be 84 billion cubic metres, the two treaties granted 66% of Nile waters to Egypt, 22% to Sudan and 12% to account for seepage and evaporation. These allocations exhausted all the Nile’s average annual flow of water. Egypt was also granted veto power over all construction projects on the Nile and its tributaries.

These rights came to be known as Egypt’s and Sudan’s acquired rights. They have been the main sticking point in efforts to conclude a treaty between all 11 Nile riparian states for the allocation of the waters of the Nile, as well as between Egypt, Ethiopia and Sudan over the Ethiopian dam.

While Ethiopia and other upstream riparian states see these two treaties as colonial anachronisms that have no relevance to modern Nile governance, Egypt and Sudan insist that they are binding.


What impact would a breakthrough have on other Nile Basin agreements?


The impact will depend on what type of agreement is reached. Assume that both Egypt and Sudan agree to abandon the rights granted by the 1929 and 1959 treaties. They could then enter into negotiation with Ethiopia to produce a new treaty that creates rights for all three states.

Such a treaty could provide the impetus for all 11 Nile Basin states to return to the Cooperative Framework Agreement, which was expected to provide a legal framework for governing the Nile based on equitable and reasonable water use. The framework agreement has been in limbo since Egypt and Sudan rejected it.

The other Nile Basin states see these colonial-era treaties as a violation of international law principles, and a breach of the vision of the Nile Basin Initiative.


What other claims threaten the status quo?


Egypt fears that if Addis Ababa is allowed to fill the reservoir without a legally binding agreement, other Nile Basin states might also take unilateral actions. This could harm Egypt’s water security and ability to control projects on the Nile River and its tributaries.

Then, there is the matter of how to manage issues related to climate change, such as droughts and floods. The existence of the dam means Addis Ababa’s cooperation will be required. In times of drought, for example, the Ethiopian dam will be expected to release some water to help Egypt and Sudan.

Ethiopia’s right to water for agriculture and household consumption is an issue that has not yet been agreed upon by all three countries.

Egypt and Sudan are worried about the harm that could come to them from activities upstream. Egypt remains adamant that the dam will hurt its water supply and threaten domestic development.

But Sudanese officials appear to have changed their assessment of the impact of the dam. They now see it as a potential regulator of seasonal floods and provider of clean energy.

These issues should be examined thoroughly during the negotiations. The three countries should adopt a treaty or agreement that is mutually acceptable and beneficial.

Over the years, the three countries have struggled to bring meaning to terms like “significant harm” and “equitable and reasonable utilisation”. The final treaty should define these terms. It should also create a mediation mechanism, which can include referring certain specified matters to the International Court of Justice for resolution.

 ኢትዮጵያም ሆነ ዜጎቿ በፖለቲካ ዉሳኔ ቁም ስቅል ማየት ከጀመሩ ድፍን ሶስት አሰርተ ዓመታት ተቆጥሯል፡፡

ይሁንና ዛሬም እንደትናንቱ የሞኝ ዘፈን እየዘፈነ በሞቱ የሚደሰት መኖሩ ምን ያህል አይነ ህሊናችን መጋረዱን፤ ንቃተ ህሊናችን መዝቀጡን ያሳያል፡፡

በኢትዮጵያ በአገር እና በህዝብ ላይ የደረሰዉን እና እየደረሰ ያለዉን ጥላቻ ስሩ የሆነዉን የፖለቲካ አስተሳሰብ እና ርዕዮተ ዓለም ለምን ብለዉ በግልፅ እና በአደባባይ የነበረዉን ፣የሆነዉን እና እየሆነ ያለዉን የሞገቱ እና ስለዕዉነት የሞቱ በአድር ባዮች እና በመኃል ሰፋሪዎች ትብብር የከፈሉት ዋጋ በማርከስ የገር እና የሕዝብ መከራ በማያባራ ጥላቻ ወለድ የክህደት ናዳ ታድሶ እንዲቀጥል ሆኗል፡፡

ያኔ እነ ፕ/ር አስራት አንድ አገር ፣አንድ ህዝብ ….ብለዉ ለህዝብ እና ለአገር ምስክርነት ሲቆሙ የሰማቸዉም ሆነ ጥሪያቸዉን ተረድቶ የተከተላችዉ እንዳዘሬዉ ያኔም በቁጥር ትንሽ በአላማ እና በአርቆ አስተዋይነት ግን ዕልፍ ነበሩ ፡፡

ያኔ የሆነዉ ዛሬ እየሆነ ያለዉ ነዉ ፡፡ ያንጊዜ አንድ አገር፣ አንድ ህዝብ ፣ አንድ ኃይማኖት ….የሚሉ የአገር እና የሕዝብ ወዳጆች የፖለቲካ ስርዓቱ (ኢህአዴግ) ቀንደኛ ጠላቶች ሆነዉ በማያወላዳ ሁኔታ በህግ እና በፖለቲካ ልባስ በጥላቻ ዘመቻ ለድፍን ሶስት አሰርተ ዓመታት ተወግዘዋል ፤ተዳክመዋል፡፡

በጥላቻ እና በእኛ ብቻ  የሰርዶ በል አስተሳሰብ በህገ-ኢህዴግ እና ፖለቲካ ዉሳኔ ኢትዮጵያዊነት ፣የኢትዮጵያ ሠንደቅ ዓላማ  ፣የኢትዮጵያ አንድነት ፣ የክርስትና ዕምነት እና አመለካከት፣ የባህር በር መኖር የሚሻ የአሀዳዊነት እና አንድነት ናፋቂ  ዓማራነት እና ትምክህት በሚል የኢትዮጵያ ጠላቶች አጥቂ እና ኢትዮጵያዉያን ተጠቂ መሆናቸዉ የእያንዳንዱን ቤት የትፋት ሰደዱ እስኪያቃጥለዉ ብርቅ እና ድንቅ ሶስት ቀን ነዉ እያለ ዛሬን ደረሰ ፡፡

በሁሉም የአገሪቷ ክፍል ለዘመናት ሠዎች በማንነታቸዉ  እና በኢትዮጵያዊነታቸዉ  እንደ ወተት እየተገፋ ፣ እንደ ጥራጊ እየተደፋ እያየ እንዳላየ ያለፈ ጎረቤት ብቻ አልነበረም ፡፡ በህዝብ ስም  የሚኖር ተቋም ሁሉ ነበር ፡፡ ተቋማት የሚቆሙት እና የሚቆቋሙት ለሰዉ እና በሰዉ መሆኑን ከመርሳታቸዉ በላይ ተቋማቴም ሆነ አገር ሠዉ መሆኑን መረሳታቸዉ ለራሰቸዉ ተድላ ብቻ እንደሚኖሩ መስማት አለመፈላጋቸዉ ነበር ፡፡

ሁሉም በህዝብ እና አገር ስም ተቋቁመዉ ህዝብ እና አገርን መገልገል እንጂ ማገልገል የማይችሉትን ትተን የዕምነት ተቋማት በተለይም ቤ/ክርስቲያን ዕምነትም ፤አገርም ሠዉ ነዉ አለማለታቸዉ ትናንት በስዉር በቤተ ክርስቲያን ሲሆን የነበረዉ ቤተ ክርስቲያንን እና መኢመናንን የመለያየት ደባ በግላጭ ወደ ፖለቲካ አሰላለፍ እና ጥልፍልፍ ተደርሷል፡፡

የኢትዮጵያ ቤተ ክርስቲያን  በጥንታዊ መሰረት እና ሀብት የትኛዉም ዓለም ሊወዳደር እና ሊገዳደር የሚችላት እንዳልሆነች ጠላት ዲያቢሎስ ያዉቃል፡፡ ነገር ግን እንደ ዓለማዊ አስተዳደር የቤ/ክርስቲያን አስተዳደር ቤተ ክርስቲያን ማላት ሠዉ ነዉ ፤ከርስቶስ ሠዉ የሆነዉ ፤ሠዉ ሆኖ ሠዉን ለማዳን ሞቶ የተነሳዉ ለሠዉ ነዉ የሚል ባለመኖሩ እና ቸልተኝነት በቤተ ክርስቲያን ስርዓት መፋለስ ጠንቅ መሆን ነዉ ፡፡

ለአብነት አቡነ መርቆርዮስ በህይወት ሳሉ ፤ በሌላ ሲተኩ ፤ በአገር እና በህዝብ ላይ የሆነ መከፋፈል የክርስቶስ እንዳልነበር መመስከር አለመቻል፣ ይባስ ብሎ ኢትዮጵያን ብሎም የሰሜን ምዕራብ ኢትዮጵያን ግዛቶች ለማፈራረስ እና ለመቁረስ ህወኃት ጦርነት አዉጆ  ለሁለት ዓመታት አሰቃቂ እና በታሪክ እና በትዉልድ አሳቃቂ ሠባዊ እና ቁሳዊ ዉድመት ማድረሱ ዓለም እያወቀ የእኛ ቤ/ክርስቲያን ሆነች የትቃቱ ሠለባ የሆነዉ ሠፊዉ ህዝብ ይቅርታ ሊጠየቅ፣ ከሳ ሊጠይቅ  እንዲሁም መብቱን ፣ሀብቱን ፣ማንቱን፣ ዳር ድንበሩን ….ላጣበት እና ለሳጣዉ  ህወኃት  በዓለም ህዝብ ፊት ሊጠይቅ እና ሊጠየቅለት ሲገባ ይቅርታ እንዲጠየቅ መፈለግ ሳይተርፈዉ ያበደረ ሳይቀበል ይሞታል ሆኗል፡፡

ለመሆኑ ዛሬ የትግራይ የቤተ ክርስቲያን አባቶች የቤተ ክርስተያንን ስርዓት እና ቀኖና ጥሰዉ የራሳቸዉን አደረጃጀት ፈጠሩ ብሎ መድከም እንዴት ይሆናል ፡፡ መጀመሪያ ዕመውነት እና ፍቅር ባልነበረበት ወይም በግላጭ ጥላቻ በነገሰበት እንዴት የኢትዮጵያን አገርነት ፣ የህዝቦችን ወገንነት የናቁ የማይታየዉን ክርስቶስን ሊያወቁ እና ፈሪኃ እ/ብሄር አድሮባቸዉ ከክፉ ነገር ሊጠነቀቁ ይችላሉ ፡፡

የኢትዮጵያ የቤተ ክርስቲያን ልጆች አይደሉም  ኢትዮጵያዉያን ከኢትዮጵያ ኦ/ስ ቤተ ክርስቲያን ጎን አይደለም ፊት ለፊት ነበሩ ፤ናቸዉ ፡፡ ይህ የምንለዉ ሁሉም ኢትዮጵያዉያን ኤደለም ዓለም የኢትዮጵያ ኦ/ስ ቤ/ክ ለኢትዮጵያ አንድነት እና ድህነት ብቻ ሳይሆን ለመላዉ የሰዉ ልጂ ነፃነት እና ድህነት በተለይም ለጥቁር የሰዉ ልጆች ህልዉና ባለዉለታነቷን የዳኑት ቀርቶ ሊያጠፏት የሚኳትኑ ጠላቶች ከመናገር በላይ በተግባር ለጥፋት የማይቆርጡት ቅጠል ፤የማይወጡት ገደል አለመኖሩን መረዳት አለብን፡፡

አባታችን አቡነ ጴትሮስ ደረታቸዉን ለመተረየስ የሰጡት  ለኢትዮጵያ  ነበር ፡፡ ኢትዮጵያም ማለት ኢትዮጵያዉያን ናቸዉ ፡፡ ኢትዮጵያዉያን ምንም  ይሁኑ ምን ፣ የትኛዉንም ዕምነት ይከተሉ  ዛሬ እኛ የምናጣላባትን ፤ጠላቶቿ የሚጠሏትን ኢትዮጵያ በህይወት እና በሞት መገኘቷን ነዉ፡፡

እነ አቡነ ተ/ኃይማኖት ህዝቤን ትተህ እኔን በማለት ከቀድሞዉ የኢትዮጵያ መሪ ኮ/ል መንግስቱ ኃ/ማርያም ጋር ፊት ለፊት ሲጋፈጡ የነበሩት አገልግሎቴም ፤ሞቴም ለሠዉ ነዉ ሠዉ በሌለበት አገር እና ኃይማኖት ባዶነት የወረሰዉ ንብ አልባ ቀፎ ነዉ ብለዉ ነበር ፡፡ ይህም ህዝብ እና አገር ከማስከበር በላይ የነበረዉን የፖለቲካ አስተሳሰብ በመግራት ራሳቸዉ ተወደዉ እና ተከብረዉ በፍቅር እና በክብር ማለፋቸዉ ብቻ ሳይሆን ቤተ ክርስቲያን እንዳዘሬ አልተደፈረችም ፡፡ እንኳን ቤ/ክ ት/ቤቶች እንኳ ክብር እና ፍቅር ነበራቸዉ ፡፡

አሁንም  ሳያዉቅ የሚስቅ ሞኝ መሆናችን የጨዉ ክምር ሲናድ ሞኝ ይስቃል ብልህ ያለቅሳል እንዲሉ ሁሉም በአገር ነዉና የማንኛዉም ዕምነት እና ኃይማኖት በአገር መሆኑን አዉቀን ኢትዮጵያን እንበል ያኔ ኢትዮጵያን የሚል ሁሉ የኢትዮጵያን ምሰሶ እንዳይላላ ዘብ ይቆማልለ፡፡

ውዴታ ቸሬታ፣ ከበሬታ ግዴታ ነው።  ሰውን እንዲያከብር እንጅ እንዲወድ ማስገደድ አይቻልም።  ማስገደድ ይቅርና ማስተማርም አይቻልም።  ማስተማር የሚቻለው ጥላቻን እንጅ ፍቅርን አይደለም።

በማንነትህ የሚጠላህ ሰው፣ የሚጠላው ማንነትህን ስለሆነ ምንም ብታደርግለት አይወድህም። በማንነትህ የሚጠላህን ስትለማመጠው በጥላቻው ላይ ንቀት ይጨምርበትና ይበልጥ ይጠላሃል፣ ስትጠላው ግን ጥላቻው በከበሬታ ይለዝባል።   ለዚህ ጥሩ ምሳሌ የመጀመርያው ያሜሪቃ “ጥቁር” ፊምበር (president) ባራክ ኦባማ (Barak Obama) ነው።

ኦባማ ለሚወዱት ጥቁሮች ከሚያስበው በላይ በማነነቱ ለሚጠሉት ነጮች (በተለይም ደግሞ ሪፓብሊካኖች) በመጨነቅ ይበልጥና ይበልጥ ሲለማመጣቸው፣ ለሱ ያላቸው ከበሬታ ይበልጥና ይበልጥ እየቀነሰ፣ ይበልጥና ይበልጥ እየናቁትና፣ ንቀታቸውም ጥላቻቸውን ይበልጥና ይበልጥ እያመረረው ሄደ።  እሱም ከሁለት ያጣ ጎመን ሆነ።  ነጮቹ በጥቁር ዘረኝነት እየከሰሱት እንደሚጠሉት፣ እሱም ይውጣላችሁ ብሎ ለጥቁሮች የበለጠ ቢያስብ ኖሮ፣ ባይወዱትም ስለማይንቁት ከበሬታቸው ጥላቻቸውን ባለዘበው ነበር።

ጥቁር አሜሪቃውያን ደግሞ በእውናዊው ዓለም የትም የማያደርሰውን የማርቲን ሉተርን ምናባዊ መንገድ ከመከተል ይልቅ፣ በነባራዊ እውነታ ላይ የተመሠረተውን የማልኮልም ኤክስን እውናዊ መንገድ በመከተል ዓይን፣ ለዓይን፣ ጥርስ፣ ለጥርስ በማለት የሚገድላቸውን እየገደሉ ነጭ ለሚፈጽምባቸው ጭካኔ የቻሉትን ያህል አጸፋ ቢሰጡ ኖሮ፣  በማንነታቸው የሚጠላቸውን ነጭን በግብራቸው ሳይወድ በግዱ እንዲያከብራቸው ባደረጉትና፣ ፖሊስም ሆነ ኬኬኬ (KKK) ማናቸውንም እኩይ ድርጊት ሊፈጽምባቸው ከመነሳሳቱ በፊት አጸፋውን በመፍራት ሺ ጊዜ እንዲያስብና እንዲያሰላስል ባስገደዱት ነበር።  የሚሽሽህን ብትከተለው የሽሽት ፍጥነቱን ይጨምራል፣ አንተም ብትሸሸው ግን ቢያንስ ባለበት ይቆማል።

ያማራ ሕዝብ ሆይ፣ ወያኔና ኦነገ የሚጠሉህ በማንነትህ ስለሆነ፣ ከጊዜ ወደ ጊዜ ይበልጥና ይበልጥ እየጠሉህ የመጡት ይበልጥና ይበልጥ እየተለማመጥካቸው ስለሆነ ብቻ ነው።  አያሌ ልጆችህን ለወያኔ አልሞ ተኳሾች ገብረህ ለጠቅላይ ሚኒስትርነት ያበቃኸው ጭራቅ አሕመድ፣ ይብልጥና ይበልጥ ጭራቅ እየሆነብህ የመጣው፣ ይበልጥና ይበልጥ እየተለማመጥከው ስለሆነ ብቻ ነው።

ስለዚህም ያማራ ሕዝብ ሆይ፣ በማንነትህ ስለሚጠሉህ መቸም ከማይወዱህ ከወያኔና ከኦነግ ጭራቆች መዳኛህ መንገድ አንድና አንድ ብቻ ሲሆን፣ እሱም እነሱ የሚጠሉህን ያህል እንዲያውም እጥፍ እነሱን መጥላት ነው።  እነሱ የሚያንቋሽሹህን ያህል እንደውም እጥፍ እነሱን ማንቋሸሽ ነው።  እነሱ የሚፈጽሙብህን ጭካኔ ያህል እንዲያውም እጥፍ በነሱ ላይ መፈጸም ነው።  እነሱ አንተን ለማጥፋት ቆርጠው በተነሱበት ደረጃ፣ እንደውም በእጥፍ ደረጃ አንተም እነሱን ለማጥፋት ቆርጠህ መነሳት ነው።  ወይ እኔ ወይ እነሱ ብለህ ምለህ መገዘት ነው።  አንተ እነሱን ካላጠፋሃቸው እነሱን እንተን እንደሚያጠፉህ በገሃድ እያሳዩህ ስለሆነ፣  የወያኔና የኦነግ ጅቦች ከሚበሉህ ብልተሃቸው ተቀደስ።

Unprecedented Economic Data Fabrication Threatens the Survival of Ethiopia

As one who has spent his professional life at the World Bank working on global economic comparison, I am keenly aware that nations manipulate their data for various reasons. Such activities are often rampant during election years. I am also aware that some nations have two datasets – one is what they use for policy making and another for the World Bank and IMF. I know firsthand that China and Russia do this. Russia inflates its GDP. China intentionally undervalues its figures. Russia wants to put itself in the top ten Economies of the world. China wants to continue its growth under the West’s radar screen.

A recent study that used satellite data to monitor economic activities estimated autocratic nations exaggerate their nation’s yearly GDP growth by about 35% relative to democratic nations (China is an exception). The author of the study was Luis Martinez of the University of Chicago. For those who may not know, when it comes to economic studies, University of Chicago is what Harvard wants to be when it grows up. Martinez noted “The crucial difference is that in a democracy you have a whole network of checks and balances that restrains this behavior somewhat.”

Data fabrication is bad for any economy. The situation in Ethiopia is far worse. The government lies not only to the international community and to its citizenry, but also to itself. When the country needs to declare a state of economic emergency and develop appropriate policy sets, the government is dancing to its own barrage of lies and touting Ethiopia as the top economic performer in Africa.

In democratic nations, members of Parliament serve as economic gatekeepers. They challenge false data and demand access to the raw data to recompute government aggregated data. Our parliamentarians know two things: clapping and giggling as the Prime Minister feeds them false economic data that they know to be grossly exaggerated if not outright fabricated.

Not long ago, the Ethiopian government was touting an IMF projection of 13.5 percent growth for 2023. At the time I blogged a short commentary, stating anyone who is remotely familiar with economics knows that a 13.5 projection is bad fiction. Not long after, IMF projection was cut by 55 percent to 6.1 percent. I wrote again the IMF will revise it downward because the 6.1 percent growth is weaved out of thin air.

Currently, the Central Statistical Agency (CAS) of Ethiopia and the PM Abiy government are at loggerheads about the state of the Economy. The 2020 Household Expenditure and Income Survey that the CAS produced shows the worsening of the nation’s economic situation. It takes two years to compile, edit, and verify such data before publication. They are often published with significant time lags.

The government has blocked the publication of the data. In its stead it wants CAS to publish data fabricated by government cadres. The professionals who are in charge of the Survey and the publication of its results refused to publish fabricated data that is at war with the reality on the ground. Another area of contention is the fictional data that the government wants to publish about wheat production and export. Here also CSA professionals refused to publish fabricated wheat data.

How can a government lie about its export? Ethiopia’s export data can easily be cross checked against import data published by those who imported from Ethiopia. This is the problem when a nation is run by mature clowns with a propensity to feign prosperity.

Experts in CAS know you cannot lie about export data. Their professional integrity and knowledge about the consequences of publishing fabricated data do not allow them to go along to get along with the government. They stood firm and pushed back against the government’s pressure and threats with termination. Consequently, the government is in the process of firing experienced professionals and replacing them with inexperienced cadres who are readily available to discharge fabricated data.

The IMF will take such fictional figures as legitimate data and project a new growth figure. God knows how high it will be. May be back to 13.5 percent, or TPLF’s favorite number of 11 percent. Two years ago, the Prime Minister declared on national TV that Ethiopia will be one of the two superpowers in the world by 2050.  He did not say whether it will be Ethiopia and the US or Ethiopia and China who will dominate the world come 2050.

For Ethiopia to overtake the US by 2050, it needs to grow at a compounded rate of 21 percent every single year. That will not be enough. It will need to register zero inflation rate and no devaluation of its currency. Its population growth must be checked not to impact per capita estimates. That is not all. The US must grow at zero percent to let Ethiopia catch up and overpass it.

On the military sphere, Field Marshal Berhanu Jula must find it possible to get nuclear power, aircraft carriers, and nuclear-powered submarines. We must also take our global responsibility seriously.  We must move the World Bank and IMF to Addis and appoint Mamo Mihretu and Ahmed Shide as President and Managing Director, respectively, of the World Bank and IMF. Sweden, Russia, and Canada that have been generous to us in the past must be on top of our international aid program to help their economies grow.

Please do not think my intention is to ridicule the Prime Minister. I am just putting flesh on the bones of the Prime Minister’s economic plan for 2050. In so doing I am showing the utter stupidity that has become the trademark of our government. I am spending time on this because it is the single most existential threat to the country.

Economic collapse is dangerous in a country such as ours where the political situation is polarized along tribal lines. It is one thing to liberally lie about the number of trees planted. It is another to cover up a collapsing economy with fabricated data.

I feel sorry for Mamo Mihretu and Ahmed Shide. They are quietly sitting in the car driven by the Prime Minister without putting on their seatbelt hoping to eject themselves as the Prime Minister speeds toward a cliff. Oblivious to their panic, the Prime Minister is praising the Lord about Ethiopia’s ascent toward becoming a superpower.

Our Most Gracious Father, the Creator of all things, saints, and clowns alike. You have delivered us from the idiocy of Tigrayan exceptionalism.
